Trying to Get Pregnant

Provera? Metformin? Cam from modern family?

im on CD75. this is my first cycle temping. i have redicuolousy wacky temps.. which i have learned since ive started temping all the tips n tricks (same time every morning, after 3 hours of sleep ect) and i plan on vaginal temping next cycle cause i may be a mouth breather. FF gave me solid CH on cd 52 which makes me 23DPO right now so clearly they are wrong. (and now they are dotted CH)

any who.. i know i need to call my doctor and see about provera.. which i have taken before, over 5 years ago.. my old gyne gave it to me after not having my period for 8 months and then i started BCPs. anyways.. i was only 18 or 19 and my naive self never asked any questions about it i just took it.. it worked fine and that was that.

so basically since im past CD60 i know i need to call my dr but do you ladies have any suggestions or advice? provera? metformin? i have PCOS and ive heard about metformin.. i am not overweight so i dont know if that makes a difference when it comes to if metformin helps or not. or any other options i have?

thanks in advance and here is a little  modern family gif for your pleasure. (or maybe mine)
cam is my favorite! i love this show!image

Re: Provera? Metformin? Cam from modern family?

  • Metformin can be an option if you have IR PCOS. I started it over a year ago and BOOM, regular ovulation. You should get your cycle jump started first and go from there.. Continue temping and see if you can confirm O. I def don't see a temp shift in your current chart, though. If you have confirmed PCOS I recommend seeing an endocrinologist if you don't already. Good luck!

  • I don't know anything about Met, but I'd say it is definitely time to get some Provera. My doctor just called in a blood pregnancy test for me, and when it was negative, he called me in a prescription for Provera. Do you have any specific questions about Provera? Did you start your period on your own for your other cycles off BC, before you were temping?

FWIW I haven't been ovulating, but FF likes to think fairly optimistically, I've found. I think it might be harder for them to determine a probable O date on a longer cycle or something (or maybe it is because I have wacky temps like you), but I have gotten a lot of false CH's that move, or I end up being a million DPO with no positive test and no period.

I got off BCP in September had one 45 day cycle then this one :( and years ago before I was on BCP I would get my periods very sparsely- maybe like 3-4 a year

  • I'm definitely new at the whole fertility testing/treatment stuff, but my OB/GYN said that he'd be okay with beginning testing after 3-4 months without ovulation. If you had a 45-day cycle, it seems like you likely ovulated, but obviously it's impossible to know now. Personally, I would get Provera now. I'd keep temping, and if I went another couple of months without ovulating, I would look for a RE.

This is all just how I would personally proceed, so you can take it or leave it. I'm not sure if the fact that you have an existing diagnosis changes anything. I think I'd still take Provera and temp at least one more cycle before doing anything else though.

Good luck! I'm sorry you have to take Provera. I hope you can get started on your next cycle ASAP.

  • I agree. You can get provera to restart your cycle. But on the flip side, the resulting cycle may not be any shorter. Metformin should only be used if you test insulin resistant. See if your doctor will test for that.

As someone with PCOS, I also have pretty erratic temps, especially if I am no where near O.
  • @applegrapemstk thanks! Nice to know that it's not just me being a faulty temper! And I will def ask about being tested for IR.

@lebradford thanks! I think I will probably go down the provera/temping route for the time being.. We are "NTNP" so we aren't rushing anything and I definitely want to temp a few cycles before seeing a RE. Thanks for the advice!
