Howdy Feb14. I didn't get much of a chance to mention that I went into L&D yesterday here. Here's a recap:
Wednesday: I had my 37-week appointment. I noticed I was having some mild headaches through most of the weekend and a little swelling, but nothing too bad, so I mentioned it when I walked in. Then they took my blood pressure and it was way higher than usual (147/82), but not quite horrible, so my OB scheduled a NST for the next morning and a 12-hr urine catch.
Thursday: LO rocks the NST, showing great accelerations and movements during some mild contractions. Right as they're waiting for her to hit her baseline again, I have a 7-minute long contraction and she decelerates hard. I've been telling my OB for weeks that I sometimes have contractions that last 5-10 minutes, but he told me with my irritable uterus, they were likely just several small ones clustered closely together. The nurse took the printout to him, and then returned to say, "You just earned a trip to Labor & Delivery."
At first, they were just going to hold me a couple of hours. Then I had another hard, long contraction. Suddenly, I'm getting hooked up to an IV and oxygen. My OB comes in an hour later, says my 12-hr came back with protein and I'm officially in early preeclampsia. DH arrives and we discuss options.
OB says he can't, in good faith, let me leave at this point, so he checks my cervix. It is shut TIGHT. With my contractions and the pre-e, he has little faith that using drugs to soften the cervix will help without causing more of the long contractions. He said we could try for a balloon and see how that goes, but he thinks I should mentally prepare for a c-section.
I was shaking, so he smiled and said, "But it's early for that yet. Let's hold you here on bed rest and let her cook another day or two to see if things change." I felt better, but still definitely a bit freaked. I spent the night, had a somewhat fitful sleep, but not too bad.
Friday: My blood pressure has continue to go down nicely with the bed rest (118/62 on last check) but the long contractions are still going. LO handles most of them like a champ at first, but starts to decel around the 4-minute mark. The longer they last, the slower she is to recover, so of course I'm worried for her. I haven't seen my OB at all yet today thanks to a full L&D, but I'm doing what I can to relax, pass the time and prepare that I might have an outside baby a little earlier than usual.
I will keep you posted if I have an outside baby soon, but hopefully we can wait her out a while longer.
UPDATE: I just had a 7+ min. contraction and LO didn't recover until it was put on oxygen. My iPad ate my update, but in short, my OB said I'm here til she comes. It may be a week or two from now or it may be tonight. I could go to the OR anytime if I have a contraction longer than about 8 minutes or if she's not recovering from them as well as she has. Until then, they're going to let her cook. Thanks for all the good juju, ladies. I'll update in the bed rest check-ins and a birth announcement when the time comes, but until then you'll probably see me on TB a lot.

Re: UPDATE: Well this sucks: Day 2 in L&D
I have a question because I was admitted last night due to possible pre-e also. I'm in the process of collecting the 24-hr urine right now. Do you know what the amount of protein was that your showed? TIA.
