Pretty much a dear diary post...

So today I had my 38 week appointment. I am currently 38 weeks 5 days and the Dr did a cervical check and he said I am 0% effaced and 0 cm dilated and the baby is still very high.  Last week I saw the Nurse Practitioner and she said I was 40% effaced. I asked him about this and he said I am definitely not effaced or dilated :( .. I know that it means nothing and I can go in to labor any time but I felt disappointed in my body. I immediately asked him about his induction policy.

My doctor is in the hospital next week and not clinic so I asked him since I wasn't going to see him at my next week's appointment, which was scheduled for Friday Jan 31st, how far he lets his patients go before inducing. He said he doesn't like his patients to go 1 day over 41 weeks and then he said he has a 2 hr window on Tuesday Jan 28th that he can come in to the clinic next week and do my appointment. I am very happy about this because obviously he wasn't going to schedule an induction date at this time but now that I get to see him next week and a whole 3 days early, I feel a lot better. He said they do not like to schedule inductions on the weekends so if I am still pregnant on 2/7, they will induce that day. I know that it isn't a definitive date and that baby can come on his own still but having a date that could mean meeting this little guy, makes me mentally relaxed for some reason.

I think I felt disappointed in my body because DD came at 38 weeks (my water broke and had her 6 hrs later) and DS came at 37 weeks (my water broke and had him 5 hrs later).. and I went in to PTL at 34 weeks 4 days and the doctors all said I would be lucky to make it to 37 weeks.. Which I am very happy to make it past that time frame of course but also frustrated at the same time. I would rather they said I wasn't going any time soon.

I guess this turned in to a dear diary/vent post sorry. I also apologize for the rambling and run-ons.. WOW..

  • I hear ya.  I think it's harder playing the waiting game with each successive pregnancy.  DS was born at 37 weeks 5 days.  I didn't actually go into labor though... he was in distress so we did a c/s.  They had prepared me with DD to go early.  My doc kept saying that she would be shocked if I made it to 38 weeks with her.  Yep... made it to my RCS at 39 weeks 2 days.  This time around, I've had so many issues with this pregnancy and I've been having irregular but painful contractions for weeks now and yet no cervix change and she's still hanging out up in my ribs.  My gut tells me that she will also stay in until my RCS at 39 weeks 3 days.  But then again, my doc keeps telling me to be ready which is really messing with my head!!  It is a mind game.

I feel on edge too. With my first two I went over and had to be induced (10 days over with #1, 8 days over with #2). With both of them I never really had contractions or cervix changes ahead of time. This one though, I've been getting Braxton hicks since 26 weeks, I got checked yesterday at 37 weeks and a few days and I was 1cm, long and high. So that kinda makes me nervous that he's gonna come whenever he feels like it and wont have to be evicted like his brother and sister. Also, I'm due on the 10th, Dd's bday is on the 15th I am so anxious to see how it pans out that I didn't plan a party for her. Dh is gonna take her out somewhere fun and we'll do cake and ice cream with family, I just dont want to have to commit to a big thing so close to my due date, but I still want her to feel special. We're gonna do that the weekend before her bday, one day before my due date just in case I go over and wont be there on her actual bday.

Eta, sorry for the long winded reply, haha
  • If it makes you feel any better, I've been 3.5-4 cm dilated and 50% effaced for at least two weeks now and I'm definitely still pregnant.  My friend was at 0cm and no effacement last week and had her baby yesterday.

  • I was 2cm, 60% effaced on Wed. I've had a lot more BH contractions and cramps this time around. Also, DD didn't drop till really close to her due date and this one has dropped enough already to make walking, standing, and even sitting pretty uncomfortable. I feel like this one might actually come earlier, but I'm definitely not counting on it.
