Rash? Face & thighs

Hi all. Hopefully someone has answers to what my daughter is experiencing. Back story... She is 21 weeks old and was born at 32 wks 6days and is a twin. Her twin has no skin problems so i know its not contagious. She had her 4 mth vaccinations on Dec 27 and the next few days I noticed a rash on her face. It wouldn't go away and then spread all over her face and it seemed to be worse at times and then fade but never go away completely. So I took her to the pedi on friday and she looked it over and said it wasn't cause for concern and it could be a number of things Bc baby's skin is sensitive. She said possible contact dermatitis or eczema. And recommended vaseline on it and i could try aquaphor. I am going to pick up some aquaphor today because vaseline isn't phasing it and it has spread to her thighs now. I am attaching some pics of it and want to see what this looks like to you and what has worked to treat it for you. Thank you so much in advance for your advice and if you took time to read all this ;-)

My Lo just had his second round of shots, and he broke out somewhat like this. It did go away within a few days. He ran a nice fever, so we are thinking it was that. BUT, this looks awfully a lot like the rash he had when we found out he had a milk protein allergy. They dismissed him at first too. The rash grew from his face to his chest, down his arms, and was getting bigger. If you breast feed, maybe take a look at what you have eaten. Also, you may want to get a second opinion on the rash. Hope all gets better soon!

OH! Dr told me to put 2% hydrocortizone cream (otc) on the rash. You might could test that on a small area as well. I did have to put some on his face. It helped the rash within two days.

Thanks for the advice. I tried the aquaphor last night and it still looks awful today. I may try the hydrocortisone but I'm afraid to put it on her face Bc she keep her hands on her face and in her mouth. I can't wait until it clears up. I'm wondering about the milk protein allergy though did your baby have any other symptoms?. She's on similac neosure for premies and will be for the 1st yr.

Yes, he didn't seem to be a happy baby overall. A LOT of people brushed that off. I knew it wasn't right. Happy moments, but not a "happy baby". Blood in stool, reflux, excessive belching/burping, rash. The blood in the stool sent me over the edge. OH, the poop had mucous. The Dr thought it was from the allergies/cold crud. Not so. GI Specialist said it was a clear sign of milk allergy.

I was skeptical of putting the H. cream on his face as well. He rubs it a lot. I just put a thin layer on when he first went to sleep for a nap. I held him while he slept, and get it time to soak in. This way it wasn't like he could wipe it directly into his mouth.

Neocate has preemie versions as well, I do believe. Honestly, I could tell a big difference in just a week once he was on Neocate. Plus, his GI Specialist said that most babies grow out of this allergy around 9 months. Your LO could have a strong sensitivity to the milk proteins as well.

My baby was a preemie. Her skin is similar. She is allergic to our dog and cat and has contact dermatitis. Its been a constant battle for months. Its a form of eczema. I use every lotion known to man. and cortisone. Take ur baby to an allergist and dermatologist.

I've read that they need to be over 6 mths to have an allergy test, is this correct? I'd love to have her tested instead of the Dr's just guessing at what the problem is. I have a peekapoo so maybe that's bothering her and causing the rash..maybe I shld buy an air purifier. She has colic and ped switched her formula to a milk free kind called nutramigen a few mths ago for 2 wks and she still screamed and ended up with severe diarrhea from it. So we switched back to neosure she still cries alot and fights feedings but no issues with bowel movements just horrible gas all the time and screams at night. Wish i had all the answers.

My ped told me we couldn't do allergy testing till after a year. So I called the allergist and they said they can. It was really fast and easy. Baby didn't even notice. He told me seasonal allergies are hard to test on babies, but common indoor and food allergies will show up on their test regardless of age. My son was colic but didn't have any allergies, my daughter is not colicky but she has skin issues. Dealing with both at the same time would make me nutty! I praise u mama, and hope u find a solution!

Personally, I would push to have her seen by a specialist. If she is still having bowel issues to that extent, a GI specialist visit is not unwarranted. LO's GI Dr was incredible! He really put my mind at ease, and gave all the information and signs I needed to watch for while transitioning to Neocate. If you feel like something is still not right, ask the Pedi to refer you to a specialist. I pushed, and I'm glad I did. According to LO's GI Specialist, Nutramigen is not milk free. It's simply broken down milk proteins for sensitivity. With that being said, it probably wouldn't hurt to section off an area your 4 legged baby can't go. I did this with our dogs. They still have half the house, but I don't allow them to come in the living room or kids rooms. I hope you and LO get relief soon.

We ended up rehoming our dog that we had for 8yrs. Broke our heart but my daughter was sooo allergic to him it was awful. We tried everything to keep him, did hardwood floors, removed all drapes, removed all bedskirts, got a hepa filter for the house. Nothing helped.she was also getting ear infections from her allergies.

I think i definitely need to get her into see an allergist and a GI dr then.Because I feel like something is right with her belly. And every time I go to the pedi I feel like i never get a real answer for the problems she's having. It's always blamed on colic I really wish she could talk and tell me what was wrong. :-) Thank u both for the great advice!
