Breastfeeders/Pumpers: Come In

So... I am a little nervous! I pumped this morning for 15-20mins. and DID.NOT have a let down Indifferent

In the history of me breastfeeding/pumping this has NEVER happened (I normally can get 10-12oz. in 15-20mins. in the am). Is this a sign that my supply is tanking? I have noticed that over the past month it has slightly gone down, and I have been just pumping enough to keep up with what DS eats at daycare. AND last week AF visited me for the first time post-partum.

I'm getting sad... I really wanted to have the choice to stop breastfeeding NOT because my body gave up. Perhaps I am overreacting, but I am really bummed/nervous/sad.

  • Your supply will change a little with AF.  Keep pumping, maybe add an extra session, even if it's for a couple minutes.  That will give your body the sign to make more.  You can always try some Mother's Milk Tea.
  • Loading the player...
  • Oh, also check the parts on your pump.  You may need to replace some.
  • Ditto Tiff on checking the parts.  Is there a hole in the membrane?  Is it attached correctly?  Check to make sure your connections are tight.

I'd also try pumping for longer.  Sometimes it takes me 25-30 minutes to get my full amount.

  • in addition to what the other posters have said are you stressed about anything right now? ?are you really tired? ?both can have an affect.
  • I had this happen over the weekend. I was stressed about MIL and I got less than 10 ml from each breast in 20 minutes when I normally get 3 oz. If it isn't stress try preping your breasts with warm compresses to help with let down and massaging them while pumping. This helps me. GL and I hope you can keep breast feeding for as long as you want to.
