STMs: Diapers Sizes (using cloth and disposable)

I apologize if this was already posted somewhere. I skimmed through the first 5 or 6 pages and didn't see anything.

I want to stock up on some diapers. We're planning on CDing, but I also want to have some disposables on hand for when we're out and about or visiting relatives, just for the convenience. That said, I don't know how long they might be in a size. I know that some babies totally skip the newborn size, so I haven't decided what to do about that size yet, but would it be worth it to get a large box (200+) of each size (1 and up) even though we plan to CD the majority? I know every baby is different, but is there a size they might not need many of or one they might be in for a long time?

Even with using sposies at daycare and cloth at home, it still took us quite a bit of time to go through a large box of sposies. Also, my daughter was only in size 2 for about 3 weeks, and we couldn't even make it through the box. It really is different for each child. I think some stores will let you exchange unopened packs for different sizes (I have not done this myself), so I would maybe get a few normal sized packs of newborn and a few of size 1's.

For reference, my 17 month old is in size 4's and has been since she was 12 months old.

I would think it would be worth it. DS was never in NBs and was in 1s for a couple months. He is still in 2s. So that plan seems reasonable to me; you will almost certainly use at least 200 of each size.

Edit: Reading fail. I missed the part where you are only using disposable at daycare. while you're out and about. I might wait on some of the bigger sizes. And a lot of times your daycare will provide disposable diapers for you.

First - you really don't have to use sposies for out and about. Using cloth is really simple, and it'll likely save you on the extra expense of buying a box of diapers that you might only use a few of.

I wouldn't buy in advance. You don't know when and what you'll need. If you're seriously going to plan on using paper diapers when you are out and about, maybe buy one pack of size 1 and see how it goes (some people don't go out much when they're in the super early nb stage). If you're only going to use them when you're on vacation (again, you don't HAVE to - I've used cloth on vacation, but every situation is different), I'd just buy them right before you go so you'll have a sense of what exactly you'll need.

To be honest I wouldn't buy in advance. We CD and I have no idea how many of each diaper size we'll go through so I'm not even going to waste my money if I'm not going to use them. We were in NB's for a couple weeks and then basically skipped size 1's. But with this baby we could be in size 1's forever and skip size 2's. If you try to do it ahead of time I would definitely not buy 200 packs, unless you're ready to give them away or store them when you don't use them.

DD was in size 4 by like 12 months and she's been at 5 ever since she's now 2.4

I agree that a 200 count of any size is probably too much if you plan on doing primarily cloth. Without knowing how big your baby will be at birth you just have no idea what you'll need size wise either. Unless you find some insane sale you just can't say no to, I'd hold out.
