3rd Trimester

Placenta Previa

At my 20 week u/s I was diagnosed with complete placenta previa....The doctor made it sound like most likely it would move, and now at my 30 week u/s today it had-  but not enough. It's still considered "previa" but just partially. Have to go back in 4 weeks to see if it's moved completely out of the way.  I guess I'm wondering if there are any experienced moms out there who have had a similar situation of previa, and if it went away in time to have a natural birth?  Would like to hear some positive stories.  Also, I just want to vent- even though it sounds silly/selfish, I'm really bummed to still be on "pelvic rest."  Really miss having sex, and now to find out it's going to be even longer....and really, I dont know that I"m going to want to do anything 4+ weeks from now anyway! And then when the baby comes, I know it'll be awhile before things get back to normal in that department.  I guess I'm just kinda bummed, even though I know it's TOTALLY worth it to have a healthy baby!

Re: Placenta Previa

  • I had complete previa at 20 weeks, and it moved by 28 weeks. If your doc thinks it will move, it probably will. My BFF had it, too, and hers moved by 36 weeks. You still have time!

  • I had full previa early on, it moved to partially covering the os at 20 weeks, by 30 weeks it was 6mm from the os. At a follow up ultrasound at 34 weeks it was 2.6cms away, so I was cleared for vaginal birth and a homebirth.
Yours very well could move, the bottom portion of the uterus does a lot of growing at this point. I would request a final scan at 38-39 weeks to check the distance from the os if I was you, if it's not totally out of the way by the time you go for your 34 wk scan.
  • I also had complete previa at 20 weeks, it moved to 1 cm away as of 30 weeks, and now (34 weeks) my doctor thinks we're good to go for vaginal delivery.  Hope yours keeps on movin'!

  • I had a complete previa and was on pelvic rest at 18 weeks. It was completely cleared by 23 weeks.
