Exclusive Pumpers....

I'm curious to know how much breast milk other exclusive pumpers are getting per session. Also, how frequent are you pumping and for how long. I am currently pumping every 3 - 4 hours for about 30 minutes per session. During the day I average 6oz per session and during my one night session I get about 10oz.

I'm EP due to preemie twins in the NICU. My LC said to pump 8 times in 24 hours. I tend to do 2-4 hours in between sessions. I pump anywhere from 15-30 minutes but was told 30 minutes is the maximum. I get 3.4 oz total per session at the least. I'm a FTM, twins came at 30 weeks 6 days via c section, and it's only been 2 weeks since their birth. I hope that helps!

  • I pump six times during the day (530, 830, 1130, 230, 600, 1000). The amount per session is different every time, but the first session is usually 7 oz, then 3-4 oz the rest of the day. I usually get 25 to 27 ounces per day. It also depends if it's a workday because the pumps my work provides are better than my PIS. At work I pump 20-25 minutes (Medela Symphony) and 25-30 minutes at home.

  • I pump about 5x a day and get about 10oz a pump. This mornings pump I got 14oz. BUT, I'm pumping for twins and they each drink 3oz every 3 hours. With my singletons I pumped about the same as PPs.

Not sure if I have oversupply or my body is just preparing me for feeding twins.

  • I started out pumping 8-10 x a day in the beginning and struggled with low supply. Now at 4 months things are pretty well adjusted so I pump 6 x a day and get about 4 oz each time, with the exception of my morning pump I get about 8 oz.

  • I'm a new EP (my daughter is 2 weeks old).  She eats nine times a day and I pump eight times.  In a given day, she eats about 22 oz and I pump about 36 oz.

  • When I used to EP, I'd get 6-8oz a session.

  • I have been EP for almost 5 weeks now and usually get 6 to 9 oz each time I pump. This is combined between both breasts.
  • I pump 4 times a day, or every 6 hours, for 20 minutes. I get anywhere from 7-9 oz in a session. It's about 28 oz a day. Don't have much of a freezer stash but that's ok.

  • I EP, I do 5-6 sessions a day for about 30 minutes. I usually get 8-10 oz per session. LO eats about 4 oz a feeding so I have an awesome freezer stash so far at 3.5wks. Over 300oz!

  • Not to hijack this thread but just a quick question, ESP @chocopotamus, did u find that when u dropped sessions u pumped less? I also have a huge freezer stash but was pumping 7 or 8 times a day and would love to pump less for my sanity. Just trying to figure out when my supply will be established enough where my supply won't suffer.
  • I think that once your supply is established (after 3 or 4 months) dropping sessions should not change how much breast milk you produce. You just may have to pump longer per session. I am gradually increasing my time between pumping and so far I am not noticing a decrease in milk.
  • Thanks guys! Will keep pumping as usual for now but maybe a little less time and see what happens once I go back to work.
