Name that drug!

I need help with a name of a pain medication they gave me after my c-section. I had a slight reaction to it, and I want to remember it for next time I'm in the hospital.

It started with a T, I believe and it was a narcotic mixed with either Tylenol or ibuprofen. It might have started with an N. I'm not much help, and my itemized list from the hospital doesn't have it listed, I don't think.

They gave it to me in place of oxycodone for a headache one of the meds was giving me.

Really not much to go on, but any help would be awesome! :)

Only one I can think of that starts with an N is Norco, which is twice Vicodin plus Tylenol.

Edit: It doesn't have twice the tylenol.. but it usually has twice the hydrocodone.

  • That one doesn't sound familiar. It made me itchy. Kind of like coming off the morphine, but not as bad.

Vicodin and Norcos make people itchy usually. I hate taking it because I look like a crack head scratching and rubbing my nose every minute.

  • I got Percocet in the hospital after little man was born.

I want to say Tramadol, but I don't think that is mixed with other drugs. I think I was offered the drug you are talking about (and I think it did begin with a T), but I refused it. Let me keep thinking and I will edit if I come up with it.

Edit: Got it! It was toradol.

    Toradol isn't a narcotic though

  • Norco is what I was given. That and a really strong ibprofin type pill that I cannot remember. And I took them to the police station to have them destroyed. Sorry I'm not more help.

  • I also was very itchy from the narcotic drip; can't remember what it was though.

  • Toradol is an anti-inflammatory that could be either oral or IV. Not mixed with tylenol or ibuprofen, but used for headaches sometimes.

Ultram (Tramadol) is more similar to a narcotic, but still not mixed with tylenol or ibuprofen.

The only things I can think of mixed with tylenol is Lortab (aka Norco/Vicodin) or Percocet.
(My job makes me way too familiar with pain meds.  @-) )

If you really need to know you could always request copies of your record. Depending on the reaction it could be worse next time.

  • I have no clue then! Is it unreasonable to call my doctor and ask what it was? Can they even look that stuff up?

It isn't unreasonable. They keep all records of what you've taken.

  • That's what I thought, but why wouldn't it be on the itemized bill? Isn't it all intertwined now?

Did you have a prescription for it after you went home or was this medication given to you while you were in the hospital?

If it is the former, I would think it would be on a different bill than the bill for the entire hospital stay.

Definitely not unreasonable. If they have access to your hospital records they should be able to find it. Otherwise you would have to request records from the hospital. I guess it could possibly be on your bill...I don't remember seeing any medications on mine, but I probably didn't pay much attention.

  • You can call and request all of your records for your hospital stay. You may have to pay a fee to have them printed but you are entitled to them.

  • It was one pill they gave me while in the hospital. It made me itchy so I told them I wanted to switch back to the oxycodone again.

  • What is an IV med or did you take it by mouth?

Toradol is the only possible med that comes to mind but it is not a narcotic and it is not mixed with Tylenol or ibuprofen but it "acts" like ibuprofen. It's a common med we give for post surgical patients.

  • Toradol is often given in the hospital via IV for pain. I'm guessing it was that.

  • Toradol is often given IV so if it was a pill then it probably wasn't toradol. In that case I have no idea.

  • I have no clue what it was, now. :(

I'll ask the nurse practitioner when we go to our first appointment. Maybe I can track it down, maybe not. I guess it really isn't a huge deal. It only made me itchy, it could be worse, I guess!
