Fever and sick baby

So, I got a call at work from my MIL today, LO has a 102.5 fever and her cheeks are very red.  It was already the end of the day, so I called the Pedi and then headed home.  The pediatrician booked an appointment for tomorrow morning, and told me to give tylenol, a tepid bath, and keep her hydrated.  I am a FTM and this is LO's first real fever, so I am feeling a bit nervous waiting this out overnight.  Especially since both DH and I have had a course of the stomach virus recently, and I really hope she didn't catch that!  Her only symptoms so far are the fever, overly tired and clingy.  I guess I am just venting because I am nervous. She, however, is dancing to the How I met your mother theme song right now...

  • Poor baby! I hope she feels better soon and that it's nothing like what you had. She seems happy :)

  • Aw. Poor baby. Just keep her fever down with Tylenol and hopefully the doc can give you answers in the morning. Sounds like she's a trooper though, dancing and everything :) Hopefully she will feel better soon.

  • Sorry! We've been dealing with this too, this past week. Our doc isn't concerned unless it's over 101 for three days (!!!!!). He said unless it spikes over 104 that we didn't need to be seen immediately. Way higher than most parents are comfortable with. My Baby 411 book confirmed that number, but I know it's nerve-wracking.

  • Thanks guys... I am feeling nervous about how high the number is, but everything I read is not really concerned with how high the fever is, but the other symptoms with it.  We will see how tonight goes, hopefully she gets some sleep.

@ChicagoBroad26  3 Days?  I would not be comfortable waiting that long.  But, I willingly admit I am overly anxious. I hope your LO is feeling better soon!
  • I went through this a couple of weeks ago with my little guy. I was also really nervous because it was the first time he was sick. I found that Motrin worked WAY better than Tylenol in keeping his fever down. The only other thing that I found to be important was, like your pedi said, to keep him hydrated. He didn't want to eat or drink and started getting a bit dehydrated. It got to the point where my husband and I were force feeding him milk through a medicine dropper to keep him drinking. Try to keep her drinking before you have to get to that point. Otherwise, I just found that cuddling my little guy a little extra was the only other thing he needed.

  • We let LO have a fever of 103 for like 4 days before we went to the doctor. He was eating, drinking, peeing, pooping, and acting normal (when his fever came down with Tylenol)... remember that fevers are a GOOD thing to help fight off illnesses. As long as your LO is eating/peeing/acting normal tonight, I bet you are a-okay to wait till tomorrow's appointment. Good luck - and even for me, that first fever was nerve-wracking!!

  • as a side note, on that 4th day when we took him in -- no obvious bacterial source... we waited one more day and BAM! Rash came out! It turned out to be a viral infection... there was really nothing more we could have done other than keep him hydrated and comfortable with Tylenol

Yup, she has a viral infection =(  Fever still gettting up to 102 but tylenol is helping.  She's not dancing anymore, she's pretty miserable. She doesn't want her bottles so hydrating is getting a little difficult, but we are keeping on it.  At least it's the weekend and DH and I can be home with her.  I feel bad that she is so uncomfortable.
Thanks everyone for easing my nerves last night, she and I did get some rest.  Now just hoping this passes in a day or two and doesn't hang around too long.
