Nursery organization and labels

I'm making some labels for the current bins and storage bins we'll have in our bean's room. Right now they're based on the categories that I have represented and some future thinking I was imagining. Some of the bins will have things inside that will be in use, like "blankets." Other bins will have extras for items that are in use in other areas of the room/house (like "diapering" or "bathtime").

We have a bookshelf/toy shelf but thought that some things will be put away until they are age appropriate or just to give them a rest from time to time.

Wondering if other FTMs and STMs have suggestions on other labels or areas to add to this list. Pile it on!

bathtime

blankets

swaddlers

diapering

burp cloths

nursing/feeding

toys

bits & pieces

books

sentimental

Clothing sizes - for storage:

Newborn

0-3

3-6

6-9

9-12

12 months +

Thanks!

  • Organizing the clothes makes me want to bang my head on the wall. Do ones that just say 3 months go in 0-3 months or 3-6 months? My baskets are labeled about the same as yours. I'd probably combine blankets and swaddlers. I also have a hats/booties/socks bin

    3m = 0-3m; 6m = 3-6m

No clue on the 1st one, maybe once they are worn, I'll put them in with the size that seems to match our child's size/timing?

In our case we somehow have like 10 million blankets (we are in MN) and about 12 different swaddlers/wearable blankets so I actually made 2 labels for blankets knowing that I'll need more than 1 bin for just those.

  • Your organization makes my "organization" look like a fail. I don't have labels. Or bins. I have clothes in a drawer and sheets/blankets in a hangy thing in the closet. I have to fix this immediately.

Where do I get bins? Target??

I'm no Martha Stewart but I had to organize all the little things because until they're in use I felt like they were just piling up in the small closet, randomly and I'd be either forgetful or stressed trying to find what I needed, remember what I had, with a possibly impatient baby.

These bins/labels are just in the closet, that has a door. My labeling is sort of about organization but maybe more about helping Mister D and outside helpers (my mom or sister or whoever) find something they need since they didn't set it up. Some of them I won't need or use right away because for example, all our hats, booties, socks and mitts are in one drawer of the chiffarobe/changing table - if we get others or as they're outgrown we'll put them in a bin.

We're using some open top bins and some plastic storage bins with lids (for things not needed right away). And yes I got both kinds at Target and some at JC Penney too.

  • I also found quickly with DD that it's great to have an empty bin ready to go to hold outgrown items to donate or sell.
    Great advice! Thanks.

  • @shellbell3845 I got a Martha Stewart 9-cubby thing from Home Depot and bins to to in it. it wasn't that expensive at all (surprisingly) and it'll make a nice toy holder too when LO is older. I love it because it fits in her closet but I can also drag it out into her room because it's pretty.

  • I bought two white wicker lined princess baskets from Michael's when they were having their basket sale. I also ordered two of these fabric baskets from Target (cheaper online and then pick up in store): https://www.target.com/p/closetmaid-cubeicals-fabric-drawers-1-pack/-/A-13217534#prodSlot=medium_1_1&term=fabric+drawer

I had some leftover clear cheapy bins that I put in the top drawer of her dresser to organize and separate mittens, caps, socks, and bibs. In her changing table, I used the wicker bins for her first aid type stuff (therm, hair brush, pet jelly, extra binkies, etc.) and the other for diapers and refill wipes. The fabric baskets...one is full of blankets and the other hasn't been filled yet bc it just got here today. I have brown baskets around the house and one has all of her baby toys and books in it from now until 6 months.

I'm sure some of this will change for me once she gets here and we get into a rhythm of what works. Yours might change too! :)
