A third carrier

I recently found a local shop that sells carriers and have therefore given myself the okay to by a third one.

I currently have a stretchy wrap (monkey wear) and a Tula. I am trying to decide between a woven wrap and a ring sling. I used the stretchy wrap when DS was younger. He loved to nap in it, but now it stretches out too much and it takes longer to get him in and out. I love our Tula and now that he is 5 months and more aware he loves looking around. It is so quick to get on and off.

I want to be able to wear him on the hip in the future and I tend to get low back pain. Which carrier would you suggest? Ring sling or woven wrap.

TIA

  • Hands down, a woven! You can use a woven like a ring sling using sling rings, you can do back carries, front carier, hip carries, ect. It's the most versatile and will serve you a long time. Stretchy wraps aren't good past 15lbs.

I never even thought about using a woven wrap as a sling. I'll have to look into buying an appropriate ring for it. Thank you.

You buy Sling Rings! It's great and super easy. You can even use them to help tie off you woven wraps. I live them a lot.

  • A woven definitely gives you more wearing options and is a natural choice if you liked the moby. I love ring slings as well but if you have back issues a single shoulder carry may not be your best bet.
  • Yup - you may make your back issues worse with an asymmetric carry (like a hip carry).  Back carries have been the easiest on my back, and I still carry my daughter, though she turns 4 in May (and is nearly 40lbs).

A lot of it depends on your style and your kid. I love wraps, but SSC's are more practical for me.  We have a toddler sized one that we still use, and she loves to ride in, but she refuses to let me use a woven wrap... :/  You're pretty far from the point where your kiddo will insist, ahead of time, on what you can use, though. :)
