Re: Cholestasis?

  • Hi there I had it with my first. It was absolutely horrible. My doctor didn't know what was wrong with me for like a week and in the mean time my placenta began to fail. I ended up with a emergency c section at 37 weeks due to extreme fetal distress( they didn't think she would come out alive) my daughter had jaundice, 0 blood sugar potentially due to the cholestasis.

If your sister is already diagnosed things should be ok for her. An early delivery in most cases is always necessary. In my case I should of been induced a week before, I think I would have a much different birth story.

    Hope that helps.

  • I also had it with my first. I had incredibly itchy hands and feet... they ran the bloodwork and had me come in that day to be induced! I was 37 weeks pregnant, so technically full-term and now have a healthy 18 month old. I'm now starting to try for #2 and hoping it doesn't happen again!

  • Yes, my appendix ruptured when I was 27 weeks pregnant and after 2 weeks in the ICU, I was diagnosed with that too! I was itching like a mad woman! Everywhere! I was placed on an antibiotic which worked perfectly. I delivered a beautiful baby girl at 38 weeks.
  • I currently have it, this is my second pregnancy, did not have it with the other.  Was diagnosed around 20 or so weeks (I am almost 31 now) and started itching at 18 weeks.

I am on Urso/Actigall (same thing, different name) it helps for some to relieve the itching and bring your bile acids down (my levels have stayed mild although climb each test but my itching has not left).  My hands and my feet for the first 10 weeks were misreable at night but as I get further along more places itch.

I have non-stress tests twice a week starting next week (32 weeks), weekly blood draws for my total bile count to watch the number and biophysical profiles to check my fluid levels (not sure when those will start).

I am being induced no later than 37 weeks to avoid some of the other cholestasis complications but have my bags packed as some cholestasis mom go into labor early

  • I also have some questions for those of you that have had ICP. My itching is everywhere, legs and arms, hands and feet, neck/head. Bikini/pubic bone area and even my thighs close to my butt. Is that normal for ICP? Everything I've read makes it seem like its only hands and feet.
