Damn RSV

Both my girls have RSV. They are being treated with a nebulizer and I'm suctioning their noses frequently. If you've delt with RSV before, how long does it last? The sound of them so congested makes me super anxious and I just want them better.

Thanks!

Re: Damn RSV

  • DS had RSV at 7 weeks old (now 5 years old). We ended up in the hospital for about 5 days but once we were out of the hospital he was fine and able to go back to daycare. They basically did the breathing treatments and suctioning while we were in the hospital. We ended only going to the hospital because DS had a crying fit and couldn't catch his breath, which was something the pediatrician had told us to look for a couple days earlier. DS oxygen levels never got below 90% so we weren't necessarily in danger. I had a friend at the time whose DS's levels were as low as 70%.

  • Make sure they stay well hydrated. That's the other reason they could end up in the hospital... for IV fluids.
  • Careful of the breathing meds if you are pregnant.

Sweet mother of God. My twins are 7 weeks. If I was pregnant again I might shoot myself. ;-)

  • My son had rsv. This was the first time he was ever sick. In his case he got pneumonia twice from it and was hospitalized once. He never fully got better for 6+ months. The doctor said sometimes they have to pretty much grow out of it )=

Hehe good point! Had just read about this because my friends kid got it and I was worried about exposure. Figured I would pass it along!
