Bathtime routine

I'm looking to branch out a little bit with our bath time routine.  I feel like at this point DD is big enough to handle a little more rigorous bath.  Any suggestions would be great.  Our current routine is like this:

1. Fill baby tub (props up in the sink) with warm water.
2. In separate bowl, fill with soapy water and several washcloths.
3. Place baby in tub, wash body then face.
4. Swaddle in towel.
5. Football hold and wash hair over sink.  <= She is getting way to big for this and I'm still petrified of getting water in her eyes/ears
6. Dry and dress.

I have tried bathing her in the tub, but she just wants to stand and I'm worried she'll slip and fall.

Re: Bathtime routine

  • Jack gets a bath everynight because of his helmet. I just soap up his hair and hold my hand to his forhead like a salute and poor cups of water over. Very little water gets in his eyes and when it does it doesn't phase him.

We're still using her baby tub so I fill that up, put her in, lean her back and let her bite on rubber ducky (she loves to relax in the tub). I shampoo and condition her hair (yes, condition, she needs it!), Then I sit her up, pull the plug on the tub so the water starts draining, and let her splash and play while I wash her body. Then I rinse her off. Water always gets in her eyes and she's okay with it, which I'm glad about.

Edit to complete half finished post.

  • @2010bride2be I think I originally had the same tub because I saved the turtle.  Was it a white one that snapped together?  It leaked like crazy for us.

I guess I shouldn't be as worried about her getting cold, or water in the eyes anymore.  Maybe this means I can retire the football hold!

  • We put his tub in the big tub. He plays with bath toys while we wash him up. He has eczema soap, which doesn't get very bubbly, so we have to put it on by hand to see that we get everywhere. We hold a dry wash cloth over his eyes when we rinse his head with a cup of water and it doesn't phase him.
  • Yikes!  that seems like too much work for a bath.  I just fill the regular tub now (he sits up so well and is WAY too big for his baby tub) add bubbles and toys and plop him in the water.
He plays until the bubbles disappear or he gets too sleepy.  Then I lay him down on this recliner thingy my mom got me for the tub and wash him up.  Daddy comes in and dries him off.  voila done!  in all he is usually in the tub for about 15-20 mins - he loves loves loves bath time.
He is starting to get more adventurous in the tub and reraches out for toys or the edge of the tub, but I'm there ready for anything the whole time so I'm not so worried.  And water splashing onto his face and in his eyes doesn't seem to phase him at all.

He also gets a bath every night as part of bedtime routine and it has helped so much in relaxing him enough that he goes to bed without an issue almost all of the time.

Exactly this for us too, word for word!

  • He takes a bath with his big bro now. They splash around and play, so cute. DH is always with me because it is a two man job keeping those two from throwing the water out the tub. He loves the water over his head, even tries to stick his head under running water.
  • We let him bathe in the regular tub-- we use the bedtime scented baby wash and fill it with toys. He splashes, plays with toys... I soap him up and rinse him. Once he gets cold/bored/tired we towel off, get a diaper and pj's... Snuggle with a bottle (8 oz) and then to bed.
  • we too bathe L in our regular tub. We fill it up to her waist and she sits and plays with all the toys we dump in. Sometimes she even flips onto her belly and plays. We use the bedtime bath wash by J&J and it gets foamy but it doesn't bother nor does the water in her face. Every few nights we take a family shower instead because she likes the water streaming onto her face and tries to catch it in her hands. She loves the water - I'm pretty sure she is part fish.

  • I let her sit, she plays for awhile. I usually take her out tho she would probably stay in all evening if I let her. I use Bert's bees baby wash. She gets dried off, lotion, diaper. I let her hang out while I get her bottle ready and full up the humidifier. Then I give her the bottle, breast and its off to sleep.

It's really handy and I think she got it at walmart.  You can take the fabric part off to wash separately as well which is nice.

Yeah it is really cool.  It makes it easy to wash him up, especially when washing his hair.  I confirmed with my mom that she bought it at Walmart.
