I've been doing some research on different positions for giving birth and came across laying on your side. Any moms experience this being easier as opposed to being on your back?
Almost anything is better than flat on your back! Squatting or hands and knees opens up your pelvis the most but side lying is a good option if you have an epidural and can't move a ton. Your pelvis is most narrow when you are on your back.
I disliked side lying almost as much as on the back, though I think it's preferable if those are your only options (laying on the tailbone prevents it from moving out of the way to open the pelvis so based on that, laying on the back is about the most counterproductive position possible). I only tried one little push on each and decided that I would be there forever if I kept trying that.
So I moved to squatting to move DS down and then delivered him on hands and knees. Only took 20 min. Thank goodness for gravity.

With my first while I was pushing the nurse had me lie on my side and push for awhile. It seemed to help move things along.
