Anyone familiar with or had a molar pregnancy?

 My SIL had one two years ago and lit was discovered at 14 weeks. She had to wait a year to start trying and then went on to have my niece. She recently realized she had not gotten her period since she is still BF her 7mth old and took a pg test and come to find out she was 10 weeks along. She went to the Dr for an u/s and they saw two sacs, one with a baby and a hb and one that was a partial molar pregnancy again. She was told that if she didn't abort or miscarry she would have severe complications during and after her pregnancy and the baby could have defects. She ended up miscarrying on her own at 13 weeks. My question is, do you have to have a D&C after you miscarry when you are that far along? Shouldn't you remove the "molar" part of the pregnancy? She went through the process on her own and did not have a D&C. I'm just confused b/c I thought you "had" to have one after you miscarry. I'm trying to understand this all so any info would be great.

    Just from researching molar pregnancy, it seems like it would depend on how far it progressed. I'm sure her OB knows what needs to be done as far as if there is anything left that needs to be removed.

    I had a twin molar pregnancy in 2010 but mine was a baby and a complete molar rather than a partial. I ended up having a d&c because my tumor was the size of a football and I couldn't pass it on my own. I think if you have a miscarriage at that point and you pass it on your own at home the doctor could do an ultrasound to check for remaining tissue and if everything is gone you would be okay. I'm sure her doctor is monitoring her closely, it's a pretty dangerous thing to have growing in your body.

    I had a molar pregnancy.  It is all attached, and when you pass it everything usually goes with it.  They usually do ultrasound after to make sure no tissue remains.

    For me, I didn't pass on my own, and had to have minor surgery.
