Trying to Get Pregnant

Need to understand temping a little better!

So I have been temping over a month now (via FF) and have identified my coverline (98.3).  The issue I'm struggling with is that every where I read it says to temp around the same time every morning and do it after 3 solid hours of sleep.  When I started I was taking my temp around 645 give or take 30 mins.  My issue is that for the last month I typically wake up anywhere from 4am to 6am and then just lay there and rest until 630/645.  This morning I woke up on the dot at 645, took my temp it was 97.7 (today is DPO 9), I continued to lay there and took it again 15 minutes later and got 98.2.  My question is, since for the last 3ish weeks since I am always at rest (already awake) and not just waking up, should I go with the 98.2?

Anytime I wake up after 4am I never get out of bed or drink water or do any activity.  I just lay there.  I'm not sure if it's better to take the temp 1) right when I wake up regardless of the time, 2) around 645 even if I've been awake for 2 hours or 3) around 645 but after I have been awake for a little.

Thoughts?

If you don't take the temp immediately, it's an invalid temp.  One day you could take 2 minutes for your temp to go up and the next it could take 30 minutes.  You never know.  ALWAYS take your temp first thing or not at all.

  • I would temp as soon as you wake up and make note if it's less than 3 hours. A lot of ladies on here vary temp time and still successfully see a temp shift. You won't know if you can get away with it until you see a few cycles clearly.

  • Also, your coverline won't always be the same.
  • I tried to attach it by saving it to my computer but it says I can't.   And I'm not sure how to link it? If you know how I will try!

I was able to see a shift and the program generated the baseline.

It's been a while since I temped, but I had an alarm set for 5am to temp even though I don't wake up for the day until 7.

  • I used to have this issue too because I wake up all night long. Some of my charts were really wacky and even though I always managed to get CHs it was stressful. I would wake up in the night and stress about getting back to sleep to temp. This month I decided to temp the first time I wake up as long as it has been three hours. It has resulted in a much prettier chart and I actually find I sleep better now because I'm not stressing about it. I just fudge the times on FF so I don't get open circles. I only wish I had done it sooner.

  • Hi ladies, wondering if I can jump in with a temping question? I am on cd2 and going to start temping on Saturday, I need to get a Basel thermometer tomorrow. I want to get used to taking it and seeing how it works. My question is, will there be a slight drop in the average temp during ovulation and will it then go back up and stay up (if pregnant or drop when your period returns)?

Sorry if these are atupid questions, I just want to make sure I am looking for the right things. I downloaded FF so I will eventually link my chart once I have something on it! :)

    Thanks!

lsangel304 just posted above--she has a pretty nice bi-phasic pattern.

ETA: I'm temping to TTA right now and at first I was all freaked out that my chart looked like hell. I'm on CD16 right now and it looks pretty darn good overall. You're mostly concerned with the pattern, not the specific temps.

This. I set my alarm for 5am even though that is not the time I normally wake up. It IS a time that I know I won't likely need to wake up before, so I know it will work. It has worked for about a year now (even on backpacking and camping trips). It sucks waking up that early if you don't need to, but honestly, there are some mornings when I get up after temping (around 8 or so) and don't even remember waking up to temp. That is the joy of a bbt that remembers the temp!
