TB test safety

From what I have read over my last two pregnancies I thought the TB test was safe but was filling out paperwork for a new job I will do per diem and it says I need a TB physical and a chest X-ray if deemed necessary if I am pregnant or nursing. Wasnt planning on telling them yet about my pregnancy since I haven't told anyone but I guess that isn't an option now. Seems odd to me as I always thought an x ray was worse than the TB test. Hmmmm.....

Re: TB test safety

  • Is there a question? Are you asking if TB tests are safe? Yes they are safe I had one done when I was roughly 6 weeks along I am fine, baby is fine.

  • I guess I am more confused....I understood them to be safe but the paperwork says if pregnant or nursing I need a TB physical and possibly chest X-ray and I always assumed the chest x ray is worse than the tb screen....so I am confused.

  • I think it depends on the job. It may be something to discuss with them and ask why it is required.

  • My OB said the tuberculin test was safe. I had it done at 6 months pregnant. If you're not out at work/showing, I wouldn't even mention it.
