Help with nursery design!?! Chair rail???

We are doing a baseball themed nursery. I want one wall white with baseball threads on it. The other walls i want to do top half white, bottom half blue, which either a white or red chair rail (although red, white, and blue are cubbies colors and we are brewers fans!). Question is, will I regret putting up a hair rail in a few years when baby boy is climbing all over things? I forswe it being perfect leverage for climbing, or a nice drawing board :-) am I overthinking this?

Re: Help with nursery design!?! Chair rail???

  • Well, it will depend on your child, but I don't think it will be climbing apparatus.  At least it wouldn't for my DS.  As for drawing on it, washable markers are great early on, as they are easy to clean off of walls (yes, I know this from experience).  You can also teach your child what it is OK to draw on, and what is not.  I would not let that hamper my nursery design.  Your ideas sound really cute!

  • We thought hard about putting a chair rail up and decided to go simple but with the idea in mind and just do a stripe (had the same desired effect for us) see pic below

  • We put up chair rail in dd1s room. Now way sue can climb up on it. Don't worry about it. :)
  • *no way she.... jeeze!
  • We put up a chair rail in DD's room. She is 2 1/2, I dont think she even realizes it is there. We ONLY allow washable markers and crayons (these are a god sent), and I am constantly telling her what she can and cannot draw on. Do it if you want. :) It is a nice classy look.

  • You can select what style chair rails you want....they typically are flat with a decorative accent. You can always just do a 1" half bullnose which will architecturally separate the wall, but no way even little fingers can grip! I think its nice that way you don't have to worry about painting a perfect line!

  • we had a chair rail in my DD's nursery. It wasn't climbable and I don't think she ever colored on it but you just never know what they're going to do. We had a highlighter incident at one point.. someone had been "shopping" in the office while we weren't aware.

Hahaha, he is standing on the bed in the middle of the room to get a better view of outside!  Thank you :)

  • Thanks for the advice ladies!!! Now to convince hubby to add chair rails to the list :-)
  • I wouldn't worry about it. We are putting up a chair rail as well. I would be more worried about your LO writing on the wall with crayons haha
  • Chair rail is cute, but I also like the idea of a stripe maybe RedBlueRed?
