NEWBS & LURKERS: READ THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you are a new to the board, newly returning to the board, or lurk often or occasionally, this is for you.

Please don't PM me about how mean you think the board is. You will probably just be disappointed and walk away thinking how mean I am because I won't give you the response you want. This board can be an awesome support group. But that support has to be earned.

So my advice:

- learn the culture of our board before posting.
- read THIS NEWB THREAD. It's worth it and will catch you up
- don't use us for as your own personal Google. You won't get a favorable response.
- at this point in the game, make humble introduction. Keyword: humble.
- returning to the board? Tell us how much you missed us. Not how busy you've been.
- need BF help? use AmyG's sticky. It's the best place to get advice.
- use the O13 MOMS sticky for helpful links, board badges, and siggy help, etc.
- make a real avatar so we have something to recognize you buy. don't just use the assigned bump one. it can be whatever you want so long as it's unique to you. FYI...you should still be able to change your avatar under your mybump section.

Newbs and lurkers turned posters that have done all of the above really will be welcomed. I've seen it happen. We've even had a few newbs/lurkers turn regular posters.

But seriously. Read this thread. It's extremely helpful and will update you on many board jokes.

ETA: and most importantly, LEARN HOW TO GIF!!!

So I have a question...I'm always mobile. Logged on using my laptop once to set up the acct but couldn't ever navigate thru the screens quickly. I'm not a lurker or newbie but I guess I need to update my profile pic. Can I not do that mobile?

I might take that back...yesterday ##Melissa## told me she didn't have a damn clue who I was.

I'm actually pretty sure most of us don't know who you are.

I'll take that as a good thing that I'm not making trouble. On the other hand I'm on TB at least 5 times a day and don't always recognize everyone.

I'll assume I have to log onto TB with a laptop to update my pic.

Edit: let me rephrase. I don't think you have to be a trouble maker to be recognized. I'm talking about me personally.

I'm pretty sure posting the PMs even anonymously would be border-line TOU violation. It might be a gray area. lol. As a mod, I don't think that's a good idea.

I haven't gotten a lot. Just a few here and there. More than I care to deal with. Hoping this posts helps a little.

Wellllllll, there are plenty of people who are well recognized that don't "make trouble". And I'm definitely not the only one who had no clue who you were.

I looked at some of her previous comments and she has been helpful in threads asking for advice and has commented, just not super regular. I think yesterday may have been her first discussion that she started but I appreciated her activity thus far and think she's legit

multiple PMs over our last year together. Nothing special. You've seen it before in all those posts that preach how this is supposed to be a community for support and encouragement, blah, blah, blah. I promise, none of them have been special. I just got one a few days ago (maybe last week) and I noticed some other mods asking how to respond to PMs like that. Apparently it's quite common. lol

@meghan7319, I don't think you can make an avatar while mobile. Pretty sure you need to be on a desk/laptop.

You can only lead a horse to water. In all my years of IT Support, I've found that all the newbs just don't/won't/refuse to read the fucking directions/instructions that come with allthethings.

It drives me batty. Especially when someone calls me to ask how to do xyz. My first question is always, "what do the directions say?" Dumbass new user's answer is always, "well I didn't read them."

Don't even get me started on the older generation buying crap they don't need because I have to set it up, then every time they want to use it they call me.
