Upper lip tie

Has anyone had this corrected? Wondering if it is an unnecessary procedure at 7 weeks old. LO nurses ok most the time but occasionally looses suction and latch becomes shallow and she sometimes clamps down on my nipple with her top gum making it misshapen. There's is very very mild soreness when this happens but nothing major. TIA

Re: Upper lip tie

  • Talk to your dentist about it. (Or an ent, but preferably s professional that you already know) LO has a lip tie and a tongue tie. She had some latch issues but time and practice worked those out. Her ties have never truly interfered with her ability to get milk. My dentist said that the tongue ties usually correct themselves, lip ties might get busted by a fall, and not to worry about either tie unless LO was failure to thrive or it was getting in her way of nursing in any way. She said that she preferred to wait to clip ties until they were older.

    I'm waiting it out.
