3rd Trimester

Swelling

**32 weeks with Twins**

This may tmi, but I need some advice. My labia is EXTREMELY swollen. It's so puffy that I can't walk or sit without feeling it. I've been icing it but the swelling isn't going away..?
I have also been diagnosed with preeclampsia but the doctors aren't delivering because it's too early for the twins. What should I do?

Re: Swelling

  • Call your doctor? From what I understand it's normal to be swollen.. And esp so if you have preeclampsia. But your doctor would probably have the best advice for how to proceed.

  • Do you possibly have varicose veins?  Maybe try some witch hazel pads (like Tucks or Prep H wipes) and see if that helps at all.

  • I had that my first pregnancy. It was normal, caused by the pressure of the baby's head. My condolences. Your dr may have some ideas.

  • I'm actually on bed rest in the hospital. The nurses keep giving me ice packs but the swelling won't completely go away :(
It's so frustrating & upsetting. I'm slowly losing my mind because of it.
  • I am pregnant with my second little one and never experienced it with my first but it's been horrible this go round. Was so swollen I could barely pee and it just was so awkward and uncomfortable (not to mention terrifying thinking about the aftermath of labor). Dr confirmed they were vericose veins and after a while I could actually feel them (tmi). I got some witch hazel pads and suddenly they went away. I attribute this more to the baby moving, even ever so slightly and taking pressure off a direct pressure spot. I have no idea but all I can tell you is there is hope...or maybe it ws just the witch hazel pads. I'm 39 weeks now. One dr also suggested using a non perfumes/gentle soap as well as getting fitted for a belt to help carry some of the weight (can't remember the name)...might be worth it if you still have several weeks to go.
