One & Done: Only child

Potty training

I started the 3 day method and it's been driving me nuts, but I can see that it's working. With this plan you're supposed to wait for them to ask to go or rush them as soon as you see them start.

DD started going on her own last night. She just can't take the panties off fast enough.

My issue at the moment is that I'm a control freak...and neat freak. I hate pee-stained carpet and hate that I'm not supposed to ask her to go. I keep reminding her to tell me (so she takes responsibility). She had an accident at 3am. It's 9:15 and she doesn't need to go...I am fighting the urge to bring her in the bathroom. She's supposed to ask or just go. So far I have used our spot cleaner on most of our living room carpet and it still smells a little. I need mega Fabreeze.

Re: Potty training

  • Don't be afraid of potty training!  It was so much easier than I thought!  But OP, I didn't always wait for DS to tell me he needed to go.  We got in the routine of always going before nap time and bed time, and always going before we leave the house.  Similarly, daycare takes the kids at 2 hour intervals, and in between its up to the kids to say if they need to go. This didn't hamper our training at all.

But here is what I never thought of....

Being out of the house has an extra element of difficulty. Since my DS is scared to sit on large toilets without his potty seat on top, I finally figured out that he is willing to stand on public potties and pee into them.

His sleep has gone to crap, because he'll either wake up in the middle of the night upset that he is wet, or his wake up at 5am screaming because he needs to pee.  He's wearing pull-ups, but he took potty training so seriously that this is a big deal to him.

But even with that, am I so thrilled to be done with diapers. Daycare tried to send his left-over supply of diapers home yesterday, and I was so excited to say "No, please, keep them!"

  • @BostonKisses2 I can pm you a pdf if you want it. A bumpie gave it to me. We're on Day 3 and it's worked really well. She got the hang of it at the end of Day 1. She still has accidents, but usually in the bathroom while trying to take her undies off. Good luck!

  • We start next week, but we're not using the 3-day method. Fortunately, no carpet anywhere.

  • I give DD lots of naked time and so she's peed on the floor quite a few times. I use BacOut BioKleen to clean up messes.
