What the actual f**k!!!!

I got a call early last week from my dr telling me I had tested positive for chlamydia. ARE YOU KIDDING ME???? I've never been unfaithful & my husband is definitely not messing around. When I explained this, the nurse told me, "results don't lie, you husband has to have something going on on the side" I was FURIOUS. Her words created doubt in my mind. Could he be a cheater? A liar? What am I going to do? I was so upset. She urged me to take the antibiotics (I didn't) and informed me she had to report me to the local health dept. (embarrassing) I made an appt with my family doctor for a swab test. They called me today and told me the results were NEGATIVE. Really?? How does this happen?! How can someone be so bold to say my husband is a big fat cheater, put doubt in my mind and cause anxiety over false positive results? I'm thankful I trusted my instincts and didn't doubt him. I have never been more angry in all my life. I did some googling and saw a few other posts about false negative results during pregnancy. Anybody ever dealt with this shit firsthand? I Wonder how many marriages those results ruined?? I wish I could drink wine!!!

  • I do know a pharmacist who was told by the nurse that he had to come back in because he tested positive for aids. He had to wait a week for his appointment, panicked, mind in a million different places. Get's to his dr and the guy was like, "okay, so why are you here?" He said the nurse said he tested positive for aids and the dr said, "no, it's negative. You're fine". That's it.

You would think before the office tells devastating news like this over the PHONE, they would have their shit straight. Especially since she flat out told you that your husband was cheating on you! What a bitch!

  • Wow. That is crazy. I would definitely consider switching OBs. Her response was completely unprofessional. Good for you for getting a second test before assuming the worst!

  • I would agree on reporting her. It is uncalled for and unprofessional to make an accusation like that! Im not sure how often false positives happen. I would be more concerned that they mixed up the samples. Whats worse if that happened is someone is running around with chlamydia and doesn't know it!

  • Holy s**t! I can't believe that happened. I guess when they say trust your intuition, it works in the positive direction too.

  • Was it a false positive or did they get your results mixed up with someone else? Either way her response was uncalled for. I would call the office and explain what happened.

I'm not sure yet. By the time I tried calling them back, the office was closed. It's probably good, I was sooo furious I probably would have said exactly what was on my mind. At least I will have some time to calm down before I call in the morning.

  • Wow. That's horrible. I cannot believe she said that about your husband. I'd report her!

  • Yeah no effing way would I stand for that! She was way, way out of line and you should report her to whoever is above her head, and if they don't seem to take your complaint seriously, go over THEIR head too. That's ridiculous and a medical professional has no business behaving that way. Sorry you had to deal with that!

  • False positives for STDs do happen...that being said, the nurse was COMPLETELY out of line and unprofessional. When you call, ask directly for a supervisor or ask to be transferred to the doc's v-mail.

  • Holy S**T! I'd be pissed and you better be sure I'd be speaking to the dr about it and possibly switching OB's. The way she handled the situation was OUT OF LINE!

  • I would have to switch doctors after I made it very clear why. I had a nurse tell me once that I would probably never get pregnant and if I did, I would probably lose it. If I did not lose it, the baby would be born with horrific defects. Ummm, not true. My dd is without issues. I did find another doctor.
  • Oh! I would be PISSED!!! Her comment was completely unprofessional and nasty. I'm so glad you got a second test.
  • That is so horrible!

I have two cousins (they're not first cousins to each other) with the same first and last name, different middle names. They saw the same doctor. One day, one got a call about her positive herpes test... which of course turned out to not be hers.

Mistakes happen, but her "editorialization" of the situation was completely unprofessional and downright rude. I'm so glad you are healthy, and so sorry you had to go through that scare.  How awful.

  • I had a positive test for Syphilis. They only told me that it was positive. What they didn't tell me is that they do three tests because it isn't uncommon for the first one to be reactive in non positive individuals. That was an awkward conversation with my significant other. The other two tests came back negative later that day and it was maddening that they didn't wait for those results before telling me about the positive test. Sorry you are going through that. I would def. report her.
  • That is horrible. So sorry you had to deal with that awful nurse! Good for you for not jumping to conclusions and trusting uour husband!
  • COMPLETELY unprofessional and out of line. False positives happen but on no planet is it ok for her to talk about your husband or marriage. Gross. I agree with the pps. If your complaint is brushed for, take your business elsewhere.

  • My RE had mentioned that one of the STD tests can come back as a false positive if you have a blood clotting disorder.  I can't remember which test or which disorder, but it might be worth bringing up to your doctor...

  • That is crazy! Wonder if you or your husband crossed paths with her at some point. Friend of an ex? As unprofessional as it was I can see an angry ex  doing that then claiming "false positive". Its a dirty world.

  • Omg I can't believe this, so proud you stuck to your gut instinct and took the test again! Seriously just goes to show people are human and make mistakes even in the medical field. Sorry you had to go through this but thankfully the outcome was good news.
