Ferber day 17

Super quick update!!!.........

Alaina went to bed at 6:30pm, again, without a peep........and woke on her own at 6am! No nightwaking. I'm so glad I didn't' have to decide (at least last night) how I wanted to handle wakings!!! lol

Rather conversly, though, naps are a bit harder all day yesterday and this morning. Hmmm...

How are you other "Ferber Moms" doing today and how was your night last night???? Lukcy? Joe? Others???

Re: Ferber day 17

  • That's great!  Not sure about naps those are still crazy for us.

DD slept 7:30pm to 5:30am!!!!!!!!!!!!!  That is the longest amount of time she has ever slept/gone without eating.  I fed her at 5:30 and she went back to sleep till 7.  It was heavenly!!  We didnt even have to do any CIO last night.

I'd like to think she's learning, but I think she was exhausted from the previous night.  We seem to alternate between good night and bad night, so that doesnt bode well for tonight.  But I'm just excited to know she can sleep that long....and in her crib!  That is an amazing accomplishment.

  • the last time we did true Ferber was Thursday night, and he slept through the night with one brief waking at around midnight.

Friday-Sunday we were at my parents, so we kept him in his crib for the two wakings each night, but we "cheated" and gave him his paci and rubbed his back to get him back to sleep.  I say we cheated because we normally don't give him the paci (even though it's in there, we usually let him find it himself) and it's unclear whether he was still awake when we left the room.  But, we were traveling, so I didn't want him to be afraid - we wouldn't have done Ferber at all, except that we stay at my parents' about once a month, so it was relatively familiar territory.

Last night we knew he wasn't feeling well, so we did pretty much the same thing as at my parents' house.  I pulled him into bed to eat when he woke at 5:30 because he didn't eat much yesterday.  He felt warm, and sure enough, he has a low-grade fever.  We're taking him to the pedi at noon :(

Reading this part, especially, really really makes ya wanna kiss Ferber, no?? Congratulations on her long night of sleep!

  • DD's two front teeth broke through last week so we're still dealing with teething pain as they make their way up higher. ?She's back to going to sleep without crying for her naps though so that's great. ?But night time sleep is still a struggle because (I think) her teeth. ?we've abandoned CIO for now due to teething so I'm back to nursing her to sleep but thankfully, knock on wood, she's back to STTN for the last 4-5 days (from about 8-8:30 depending on when I get her to stop crying till 6 a.m.). ?We also have relatives in town so things are all screwed up for her!! ?Hopefully, after everyone leaves next week, her two teeth will be all the way up and we can get her back to going to sleep at night on her own again. ?I'm thankful that she's back to STTN again though.

  • We had a rougher night last night for some reason.  DS went straight to sleep w/o a problem, but he woke up almost every hour after 9:30!  I don't know what that was about.  DH wasn't home (he was out with friends who are in town for the holiday) and I am sick, so I broke all the rules and went in to DS immediately and gave him his paci back whenever he made a peep.  I was just too tired & not feeling well enough to wait it out.  I even had to feed him twice last night, which is really rare for us.

He does have at least 1 tooth coming in, and I honestly suspect he may have up to 4 coming in at the same time right now, so that may be what was bothering him last night.

Ferber is a genius! I think I'm in love with him.  CIO seemed so mean but his way is not.  DD cries less now than before we did cio and she's getting more sleep!

  • We've been doing a modified version for about a week now.  Last night was horrible though...Connor decided to wake up and hang out just about every hour after midnight.  He calmed down quickly, but he was still really loud, so no one got any sleep.  I didn't feed him until 5 though, so I guess I'm lucky he calmed down without being fed.  Some nights I just want to quit and go pick him up so we can all get some rest, but I know in the end this is best.  About half the week he has STTN for 8-10 hours!

  • Last night was night 2 for us.  It went better than night one.  DS took about a half hour to get to sleep and was up at 1 and 2:30 for about 15 minutes each time.  A couple of times I heard him wimper for just a second and then he went right back to sleep so he must be starting to understand!  He also took a 1.5 hour nap yesterday morning in his crib.  I was very excited about that as he's never really napped in his crib.

  • We are about 1.5 weeks in and she STTN last night about 8:30-6:45ish. Unbelievable. We are at my parents' and she's still doing well, with only one rough night.

If it doesn't work out with DH, I am marrying Dr. Ferber.

  • We are Ferber day 1.

Last night DD woke up 5 times between 7:30pm and 7am. The 2nd time was the worst and DH went in 5 minutes earlier to sooth her - she was on a rampage and did not stop crying the entire time. She was crying so hard, she kept hiccuping after while we soothed her.

We cheated a little and I rocked her to sleep, which took about 5 minutes for that 2nd time.

Rest of the night, we let her cry and it become less and less crying each time.

Just put DD down for a nap and she's down. Likely, she will flip herself on tummy. But hopefully, she will only cry a little, sooth herself and go back to her nap.

    Good luck everyone.
