Wrapping Moms

Morning :)

So I've been babywearing since J was born using the Moby and Ergo.

I'd love to get introduced to the world of non stretchy wraps. He seems to like being on my back in the Ergo but I'd really like to have another option to wear him in. @kellenhi21 you've totally inspired me!

For whatever reason I feel super overwhelmed by the thought of trying these wraps!

Questions:

Where?! Where can I get my first non stretch wrap in the most cost effective way possible. Is there a swap online?

Type? Are there different types? What are your prefs?

Holds? Rec your favorite back carry!

Thank you all so much in advance!!

Re: Wrapping Moms

  • What PPs have said, there is also Babywearing102 on FB and they help people with carries and are pretty informative.  The only back carry I have been able to master so far is just a basic ruck.  I think my favorite wrap so far is my Didymos Flamenco Hemp Indio, its pretty cushy but not super hard to wrap with.  I think my least favorite so far is my cotton/silk Didymos Pfau.  I have another cotton/silk that I like much better so don't fear the silk.

  • hijacking thread, @BLT20051 do you like that Pavo?  I was looking at a few of those on the swap and contemplating yet another purchase.
  • There's also a Babywearing DIY and Advice group on FB. I started with a Moby, and before commiting to the cost of a woven, made a DIY with Osnaberg (I made it a size 6). Now I have a Natibaby Wisteria Trees (5- it's a cotton/linen blend) from wrapyourbaby.com (she also has some great tutorial videos) and I bought my husband a Natibaby Treasure Map (100% cotton, seconds quality) from Risaroo.com. His is a 7 (he's a big guy).
I second searching out a BWing group in your area- the wrapping qualities of different materials can make or break your experience, so it's great to test out sizes and materials before selecting a wrap (especially if you're on a tight budget like me!).
And you don't have to spend a fortune- there are wraps out there ranging in price from probably $80 or so up into the thousands. A machine woven like Natibaby will be more budget friendly than a handwoven like Pavo. Also- seconds quality wraps are cheaper and may have a visual flaw (the flaw doesn't effect safety). We have yet to find the flaw on our NTM that's seconds quality. It saved me like, $40 getting it that way.

    @sctiger @nykkolaughs @llbta85 @blt20051 @libberluru @kellenhi21

Thank you ladies SO much! I joined the babywearing swap and will head over to 102 in a few. Unfortunately there are no groups near me. One two hours north... Oh hello middle of nowhere Vermont living :/ I totally appreciated the input and pictures and website suggestions. You ladies are the best!

Now suggestions on how to get hubby to go for a 150+ wrap?? Haha! Just had to get rid of cable while reconfiguring the budget. Hmm maybe as a bday gift from my mom :)

Eta: @rissnruss! You got yours in while I was typing! Thank you for budget wrap ideas... Definitely (unfortunately) a big concern.
  • @jillsee if you go to the swap's photos they have albums for all the sizes and types of carriers, there is a bargain album that you can usually find something decent for under $100.

Its a little heavy for me. I prefer my thinner oschas. I actually sold my holly. I love the color but that was it. I have yet to find Pavo love.

  • The only thing I would recommend is staying away from kokadhi(KKD) they're having some serious quality control and customer service issues currently.

  • Yay!!! I'm still learning but it is so much fun!!! I love back carries and have tried out a handful, definitely start with the ruck :) I just watched YouTube videos and learned that way! Definitely join the babywearing swap on Facebook as well as babywearing 102. I'm still learning/trying to remember the names of some of the carries I've tried, but here's a pic of what I tried yesterday- I think it's called the wiggleproof?image

  • @KellenHi21 can I ask what size you typically use? (Sorry if thats a strange question) I believe we are pretty similar height/size.
  • @jillsee my base is a 6 :) I also have a size 5 Zara that I love (has long tapers), haven't tried any shorties yet! The 6 is plenty of wrap for every carry I've tried so far!

  • @KellenHi21 Thank you so much. That is what I was thinking from the reading I have been doing (size 6) Awesome!

My bank account thanks you!  I prefer a thinner wrap and have wanted to try Oscha and Pavo but haven't seen any Oschas that really speak to me, but will have to keep a look out.

The oscha surya tiree(CJs legacy wrap) is super thing and floppy and I love it.  The oscha braid is heavier but at an amazeballs wrap.  It's a bit more grippy and supportive than my surya.

  • For newbies. I highly recommend Ellevill Jade(any colorway.) It is a great wrap that was sent to me by a bumpie and I passed on to @glitterbush. It has nice loooong tapers and super grip that is great to learn with. And it's fairly inexpensive. I see them on the swap for around $90.
