The ear piercing poll made me curious what S13 did about that controversial baby boy decision - to circumcise or not?

  • I have a girl, but if we do have a boy, he will be circumcised.

  • We circumcised. I didn't feel strongly either way, but my DH felt strongly that he should be, so we did.

  • I didn't want to, but let DH make the call. He isn't so neither is Lo.

  • I have a girl but if we ever have a boy he will not be! I have very strong options on this and I am glad DH feels the same!

  • I left it up to DH and he wanted to. But LO was born early and had a low birth weight. He then lost a lot of weight and struggled to gain. Only 2 dr's in our city do the procedure and neither would consider it until he gained back his birth weight and that took about 1.5 months. After talking with the dr's they said that since our LO had a tough start this could be unnecessary stress for him. So we decided not to circumcise. But it is something we would not rule out for our next child should we have a boy.

  • We circumcised. DH is so he wanted his son to be as well. I didn't have strong feelings one way or the other.
  • I'm voting SS because the state of my son's penis is no one else's business.

The poll is anonymous and also not mandatory.

You having a bad week? Every one of your posts I've seen lately has been really... aggressive.

    same here.

No snark intended - is there another kind of non-routine circ?
    Medical reasons?

Actually I'm fine, thanks. And I'm not stupid. I think it's rude for people to ask about other peoples' kids penises. FTR, no they haven't all been aggressive, but thanks for your expert assessment.

There are medical conditions that can arise that require it to be done.
A good friend is having to have her son circ'd this month due to medical reasons and he is 10 months. He was continually running a fever, had dihrea and was sluggish. After many tests it was determined he had a UTI. This was at 3month. They tried antibiotics (which would clear it) and a few other things, but it is the way that his skin formed and there is a small 'pocket' that does not releases urin. Anyhow, a circ will do the trick.

  • We planned on circumcizing but LO had a natural circumcision and only has partial foreskin.  Our pediatrician told us to hold off on circumcision until we saw a urologist.  We saw a specialist and since he is peeing straight and his baby erections are straight, we are just going to leave it as is for now.

Of course. Medical. Our son almost needed one for medical reasons, but we chose to wait it out and the issue self corrected.
  • DH is not circumcised as he was born in Europe. I let him make the choice but was leaning not to do so.  We decided not to.  He teaches DS1 how to clean himself and obviously will for DS2.

  • I have a husband that is. And three boys that are not- 18, 4 and 4 months. I talked to my senior in high school the other day about the option of circumcision if he desires and he looked at me like I had ten heads. Ha!
  • I was against it at first, but what changed my mind is that I was reading about pros and cons, and one con was that once a man is old, and possibly unable to take care of himself, uncircumcised men are more likely to get infections or UTIs. Men late in life sometimes have to get circumcised to help this issue. That seems really sad to me. So I just got it over with early on.

Yup, this. I was undecided but I have several nurse friends who shared some horror stories- complications and issues are common with older men who are uncirc'd. And it's not unheard of in younger men and boys. There's a reason the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends it.

  • DH is not, he initially wanted DS to be circumcised. After doing some research, he decided against it. I left the decision up to him and I'm happy about his decision.

The AAP doesn't universally recommend it because the benefits aren't great enough, according to their website. They only say that the benefits of it outweigh the risks of having it done.
Fair enough. Should've gone and read the exact wording before posting. Thanks.
