Premie Nipples

I forget which conversation mentioned using premie nipples on bottles. DH started giving LO a 2-3oz bottle between 6-7 each night. She's just over 3 weeks old and chugs the bottle, cries for more and BF's hourly for 3 hours. I know the hourly is growth spurt so I started feeding her around 5:30 so she's not as hungry (sometimes hangry) when DH gives her the bottle. Could premie or slow flow nipples be my answer? This little lady can put down some BM!!

Using a slower flow nipple could definitely help. I just got premie nips today for my Dr Brown bottles, and they didn't drip when I put some water in them (whereas the level 1 nip did drip). Haven't tried them on an actual bottle yet but hopefully they help!

That said, if you are on the lighter side of 2-3 oz, she may just be hungry still. My guy (3.5 wks) can easily put away 3-3.5 oz per feeding, and then will still cluster feed in the evening.

  • Thanks for gbe help! Several times, I've had to unscrew the bottle I'm pumping into to for her a couple extra ounces after she's finished 3oz. Looks like we have big eaters! I'm going to buy new nips tomorrow!
  • I was super excited to try the preemie nipples w. The Dr Brown's bottles but Ben still chugged those ounces!
Babies naturally want to cluster feed in the evenings like that, so while it's good that your pumping, it would probably be better to let her nurse away. She'll be happy just being on your Boob even if it isn't a steady stream of ounces.
