Not prop them up and let them sit for a while, I mean they can move to a seated position from lying down.

Re: CPW: Can your baby sit up on his/her own yet?

  • Adeline is just starting to be able to sit up on her own for longer than a few seconds.  She can now sit up and lean forward to grab for things but usually ends up falling to the side after a minute.  I really think that she just prefers laying down because she can barrel roll around the room to get her toys!  She has also been standing up since she was about 3 months old so she will often straighten her whole little body out trying to stand!

Nope, not yet. He can sit on his own no problem if you put him there. And He tries and props himself up on his elbow and side, but he can't make it all the way to sitting from lying on his own.

  • She's very good at sitting and can move around/keep herself from falling, but cannot get there from lying down.

  • Only when he doesn't want to nap and is trying to get my cell phone or tv remote from the end table (sitting on my lap). I've never seen him do it on the floor though.
  • She's no where near pulling herself up into a seated position on her own. But she tries! She always does little crunches when we are changing her diaper, but she's got a long way to go.

We are heavily dependent on the Bobby pillow for assistance to stay in a seated position. She will jack knife over towards her toes and get stuck, or slide down so her head is on the pillow and get stuck. She's much better at stabilizing herself from side to side now.

  • D'oh! I answered the question before I read the part about getting themselves sitting up. No, not yet.

  • Nope, she supports herself somewhat but hardly tripod sits. At this rate, she'll be 8 months when she sits by herself.

  • Nope, he can sit up for a few seconds alone if he doesn't know he's doing it and if I put him in that position... but he's been trying to sit up on his own and does this weird face strain and stomach crunch thing, but can't actually pull himself to a sitting position yet.
  • The user and all related content has been deleted.
  • LO can sit for really long periods of time (she spends most of her playing time sitting) but she can't get there herself
  • Not yet! I saw my friend's baby do this a couple weeks ago and it was so cool!!
  • Sully loves to play sitting up, but can't get there on his own yet. He fusses when he gets bored and wants us to sit him up when he falls over or move him. I'm anxious for him to be able to move himself!
  • Nadia can only sit for a really short time. She does think she's going to sit herself up straight from laying on her back, that or she's working on her abs. She will get to a sitting position in her rnp or bouncy seat, but that cheating since she's already half way there. but it drives me crazy and now I can no longer use her bouncy seat as she can flip it forward.

  • DD does this interesting lean. She starts on her tummy and leans upon her arm. It's super cute.

This for the most part. If he's on his belly he can sometimes maneuver his way back up to sitting but not often.

However, he can't roll from back to belly and he just started consistently rolling from belly to back this past week or two. Babies are weird.

  • Not yet, but we are close!
  • I'm a SS. She can't from her back to sitting, but she rolls over and goes on her hands and knees and then sits up.

    This
  • Oops. I answered yes before reading fully. She cannot get herself into the sitting position from lying down in a flat surface. On the bed or couch she can do it, and if we sit her up she can stay sitting forever.

  • We had a play date with another early J13 baby last week, and I was shocked when she maneuvered herself from her back, to her belly, into a seated position, and then onto her hands and knees. Very advanced for 6 months! DD is nowhere near getting into a seated position on her own, but can sit independently playing with her toys for 30+ minutes if I help her sit up.
  • A can pull himself up if you give him your fingers to pull on, and he will sit up be himself for a long time.  He wobbles a little but almost always catches himself.  He doesn't roll over yet, but I guess that's ok.

  • She can sit up if we put her in position.  When she's in a 45 degree angle, like laying on a pillow on our bed, she has pulled herself up to seating position, but definitely not any other way yet.  I'm in no rush.  I am just glad I can sit her up now. She gets all excited to be in the upright position and now she can sit with us at the dinner table in her own chair.

  • Wait!  Totally read the question wrong.  He can sit up but not from laying down.  So ignore my vote for the 2nd option.
  • If you put her there she can sit for 10-15 mins before she gets bored and falls over..but no where near pulling herself up to sit by herself. Although she does try sometimes.

  • I voted yes. He has gotten himself up from lying down twice this week. Both times my cell phone was his goal. It isn't a consistent thing but it has happened.
He loves sitting, almost as much as standing.
Mh put him in the bucket last week for a second without buckling him in. The result was LO coming within a second of falling out by pulling himself upright and rocking it forward. Kid has crazy ab muscles.
  • If we move her to a sitting position, she can sit like that unless she tries to look at something behind her.  She can't get to a seated position without a little help.  She's getting close though.

  • My girls are turning 7 mos this week, so they're a little older. But we have a "yes"over here. I gave birth to ponies, not babies. They full on crawl and can move to a sitting position. This week they pull to stand. My pedi told me she wanted to see my tiny Penelope crawl, bc she'd never seen one that small do it.
    My house is nutso.
