Going backwards

Gahhhh.  My 10.5month old used to be such a good sleeper.  She would happily go in crib wide awake and put herself to sleep.  She would lie beside me in bed and go to sleep in seconds.  She would sleep through anything.

She still sleeps lots...typically two 2hr naps a day.  BUT...we went away for 2 weeks at Christmas then when we returned she got her first cold, and it hard THEN she decided to pop 4 teeth in 2 weeks...and well needless to say she has not been in her crib this month.  She now won't have anything to do with it...and she takes longer to go down when I lie with her (only like 10min max which I know is not bad).

I opened a home daycare 3 weeks ago and am slowly taking in kids so I do need to get her back in her crib...right now I can still go lie with her on the floor bed and leave her as I only have 1 other child...but child 2 starts next week...the other 2 won't start until April.  I have a video monitor and she's on a floor bed so I'm not concerned safety wise but in her crib she would wake and lie there playing with her feet, blanket, soother what ever...so a good bit of time.  If she woke she'd put herself back to sleep no problem.  On the floor bed she wakes and rolls off to go play...I need her back in the crib for naps.  I bedshare in there with her at night...that is fine.

Anyways...just rambling cause we had such a good thing then BAM gone.  So I now have in her room a crib.  A twin bed (with frame) a twin mattress on the floor and as of today her crib mattress on the floor.  It is a bit much!!!!!!

My goal is to have her on the crib mattress next to me tonight.  Then tomorrow or the next day move the twin bed next to her crib and have her in the crib next to me...then in time move the twin bed away and, I hope, have her back in her crib as happy as she was in the past.

The cold is gone, the 4 teeth seem to be leveling off...we should be good to transition back...I hope!!!

It was just such a good thing a month ago lol.  Where did it go??? gahhhhhhh

Re: Going backwards

  • Sounds like you have a great plan in place to transition her back gently. The pressure of the daycare does not help, I'm sure! Try to be patient and remember that this too shall pass. ;) Sleep is always changing, whether you like it it not. Lol

  • I agree that it's a phase, as well. I remember going through something similar at that age with DD1. You'll get there, mama!

  • Amazing progress here.  Sooooo happy.  I moved her crib mattress to the floor next to our floor mattress in her room and had her sleep there (maybe 2nights?)  She was close but still had her own space and her own mattress under her.

I then moved the bed up next to her crib and we spent a night on the bed together (she was near and could see her crib bars (which she used to LOVE when she was really young, dark crib, light walls).

Last night she went down (asleep) in crib at 8pm and stayed in crib until 1am (waking for her usual 2 feeds).  At 1am I was too lazy to put her back in her crib so she stayed in the bed with me...but next to her crib bars (all safely rigged to bedshare there).

Today she had a 2hr nap in her crib (went down asleep) and after 2hrs I heard her talking away...my husband and I snuck in and she was lying there playing and talking to her blanket all smiley.

She just went down in her crib again.  I haven't tried putting her down awake as I figure her waking up in her crib on her own for a few days will help her re-like the crib before I try putting her down awake.  I suspect she is ready for that again but I don't want to push it.

I asked my husband if he thought I should move the beds back away from the crib...he's been making fun of me for the many mattresses/bed in that room and the numerous configurations in the last week.  He said to leave it awhile longer...that it just seemed like way to fast and smooth a process so far lol.

Anyways, still a ways to go but I am thrilled.  Even if she wakes tomorrow and refuses the crib again I feel a little better that she's been so happy in it the last 2 days.  There's still hope...I didn't completely screw up such a good sleeper by not having her go in the crib for like 6 weeks due to travel, cold and teeth!!

Anyways so excited to post an update...my friends tend to be more CIO so they can't quite understand how exciting this is lol.
