In the last few days, DD has changed so much it is scary. She will be 17 months tomorrow. She was loving, smiley, and laughing all the time. Now she is screaming, throwing toys, and hitting people. I thought, a few days ago, that she might have an ear infection because she was playing with her ears a lot, had a fever, and was super irritable. Well, the fever and ear tugging went away, but no such luck with the temper. Everything upsets her now. For example, we have a Little People toy car and she was have trouble getting one of the figures in the car. She screamed and pushed the car away and threw the figure. This is how she now treats her food, and us when it's time for diaper changes. I don't know where all this came from but it is horrible! lol Another thing that really bothers me is that she is hitting people. I don't understand where that came from because we don't hit her. Are the Terrible Twos starting early?
Re: Who are you and what did you do with my baby?
Having her ears checked is probably a good idea. If they turn out fine, I will say that the behavior you describe is pretty much par for the course for her age. At least based on what DD's behavior has been the last 3 months. She just turned 20months and I can see it lessening as she learns to communicate more and understand more.
Her screaming and meltdowns are often about diaper changes and getting undressed/dressed. Basically, any transition can cause them, but mostly diaper changes. And the hitting at least for us only happens during these transitions that we are 'forcing' on her, and is simply her way of saying she is not happy with what we are making her do. We tell her 'no hitting' and 'hitting hurts' and stop her from continuing to do it by holding her arm for a few seconds.
17months can just be a very frustrating age for kids they are starting to grab just a smidge of independence. That they can start to DO things, but not everything they want to which is frustrating. They can understand so much, but can't communicate very well which must be very frustrating. And the only way they have to express frustration is screaming and physically.
