We have been waiting for this appointment for 2 months today so I was pretty excited it was finally the day!!! The Dr had a lot of got advice and fully explained reflux to us. DDs reflux has gotten so much better in the past month but we wanted to keep the appointment because we knew as soon as we cancelled it the reflux would get bad again. It was nice to just be able to understand it more and find out what we could do to keep helping her.
He told us that we could also try to take her off the alimentum formula because he doesn't think it's a milk allergy (than goodness my bank account was hurting from the 27 dollars a can twice a week!!) we're going to start similac spit up.
We told him we started her on solids as well to help the reflux at 4 months and he agreed that it can make a huge difference. This is the one thing that bothered me that he told us to do... He told us to give her solids breakfast lunch and dinner time and we only had to give her 14-18oz of formula for her to get the vitamins she needs... I just can imagine almost cutting her formula intake in half!!! I told DH I'm not going to do that but I will continue to give her solids at breakfast and dinner time along with her 26oz of formula. Has anyone heard of doing this at 4 months, 14-18oz is about 6 3oz bottles... DD would flip!
The other thing he told us to try and do is wean her from her meds. She's on Prevacid in the morning and Zantac in the evening. It would be nice to get her off meds too but it makes me nervous. I feel like we were starting to figure it all out but now I feel like we're about to change it all up! Hopefully it works!
Re: Saw the GI specialist today.
FTR, we're still planning on waiting to start solids unless it gets worse. We're electing to sticking with rice cereal added to two bottles of breastmilk daily.
When I supplemented, we used similac for spit up and he seemed to do well with it. We ended up doing 2 oz of the spit up formula with 2 oz regular formula because it was too thick otherwise.
Good luck!
