My. Job. Sucks.

My pump is messed up and I got it from wic so I called last week to make an appointment. My appointment is tomorrow. I let my job know last week that I'd need to leave early tomorrow.

Well I go downstairs to hr because I have to pump in the interview room and one of the ladies came up to me and told me that my time off request was denied because it's not a doctors appointment or court mandated. The hr manager then proceeded to tell me that it wasn't necessary because I could always have someone go to the appt for me. I explained to her that that would mean that I go a day without my pump so my daughter wouldn't have food the next day.

Her response was that I choose to breastfeed. You're kidding me right? Is she even aloud to say that? I was so dumbfounded. I couldn't even say anything.

They are a really shitty company. They're ALWAYS hiring because they lose someone every other day and I'm pretty sure they're just trying to make me quit because it's a hassle for me to pump. They've penalized me before for coming back from break late. I pump on my break and have fifteen minutes to go from floor five to floor one with an elevator that's broken half the time and pump.

I was even written up once for "work avoidance" because I was THREE minutes late from break and I was seen in the break room FILLING up my water bottle. I was told that because I know I pump I have to time it better. Oh. And I was written up by my uncles ex wife who hates my family.

I'm so irritated. I really need to find a new job. Thanks for the vent. ;)

  • Wow. You should definitely check into the laws that should protect your pumping time. That's ridiculous that someone would say those things to you. I'm sorry.
  • Oh yes I'm definitely looking into the laws and such.

... I might be needing an assistant. And it pays well... move to Washington!!!

I wish! Too bad I'm in New York and that's a loooong way from home. :/

  • @UpsideDownFrown thank you so much! I'm also going to calling this legal assistance place that my work gave me access to because Im fairly close to being fired between everything that theyve penalized me for the lat few months.
  • I don't know the law, but that sounds illegal. I hope you get the support you need from legal assistance.

Not 100% sure, but I think employers are required to provide you time to pump outside of your normal break time.  Definitely look into this!  If there is no way for you to get your pump taken in, could you get a cheap manual just to get you through until you can get it fixed?
