Bumbo Recall (Insert Eye roll)

If I have to hear one more time how Bumbo seats have been recalled, I'm going to scream.

A friend just posted a picture of her gorgeous daughter SITTING ON THE FLOOR clearly with mom right there in a Bumbo and someone commented how they'd been recalled and gave the link to the article...DATED 2012.

Look, I get people are just trying to be nice...but are you serious? A recall from 2012?!?!  Why don't people actually read something in its entirety before spreading it around? I'm pretty certain the recall was for ignoramous parents who set their kids on kitchen counters and walked away to go tend to the laundry or whatever. Everything in life could be recalled if you don't use common sense. SMH.

IDKY this irked me so much. Preggo hormones I guess!

Re: Bumbo Recall (Insert Eye roll)

  • There actually were cases of children set on the floor who fell out. My friend was playing peekaboo with her daughter on the floor when her little girl fell out. The things should have always come with straps.

I agree it's ridiculous when people don't read info they're passing on, but I also think the company was wrong to ignore requests to add straps for so long.

  • When I nannied an infant who had one prior to the recall, I made sure she had cushion under her (those foam ABC mats AND her play gym mat or a blanket) and held onto the thing. I mean, a lot of this stuff is just common sense...like you wouldn't sit them in the thing on a hard tile floor regardless of if you were sitting there or not. IDK. But I agree, it's odd the thing didn't start off with straps.

To me (and my friend), if a seat is sold you should be able to sit six inches in front of them to play peekaboo and have the seat hold baby well enough that she can't flip herself out. I never used a bumbo (DS hated it), but I doubt I'd have sat there with one hand on the seat the entire time. I'd have wanted to use his propped up position to read to him or interact with him without needing a hand on him to stablize.

  • HAHA! That doesn't surprise me @BlueDot818! And yeah..what kind of ding dong shouts that out after someone gave it to you as a thoughtful gift? People's tact always amazes me.

My mom posted a few outfits on FB she bought baby girl that were animal print and this lady made some remark on how she doesn't think animal print looks good on children. LMFAO! In fairness, the lady is a massive drunk but it wasn't like my mom posted some hooch dress for a 3 month old. Who asked you? LOL!

  • Pretty much. Call me a horrid mother, but I'd use the thing without straps as well...because I can use it without there being an injury to my child. Common sense. It's not an inconvenience to me to sit and hold it with one hand or straddle it between my legs and play with her while she's in it. I'm waiting for everything in life to be recalled because it can all kill us and our children...
