tummy problems question

heeeeeey! sorry I came back for like a week and then disappeared again. I was on leave following surgery but then I had to go back to work and things got hectic. However I am now temporarily a SAHM (maybe long term fingers crossed!) So I promise to be around more!

LO is 5 months yesterday and for the most part has had no tummy problems. She doesn't even spit up hardly ever. Last thursday however she threw up, then friday her eyes were super swollen and then by sat she was having watery stool multiple times a day. I switched her pedialyte to give her tummy a break mid day saturday and most of sunday. Sunday evening we tried a few ounces of formula within two hours she was screaming in pain followed by two dirty diapers. Back to just pedialyte for all of monday. She seemed fine again so we tried a few ounces of formula  and again within a few hours it messed up her tummy. So back to pedialyte we went. I have zero ideas. Doc says maybe a virus but she says virus for EVERYTHING without really checking her (looking for a new doc) What I don't get is generally if your sick your sick, regardless of what you eat until it passes. She is 100% fine on pedialyte but everytime I try to reintroduce her formula she gets a very upset tummy. I even opened a new package thinking maybe I got a bad batch of forumula or something. Shes been on the same formula since she was 7 weeks old I would think it would be very unlikely she would suddenly have an allergy? Could it just be teething? any ideas?

We tried solids two weeks ago and she just really didn't seem to be interested/ready.  DD is over 18lbs and pedialyte for almost a week straight just really isnt enough to fill her so we tried again yesterday and thankfully she was all over it. Just rice and bananas (BRAT diet for diarrhea)

Re: tummy problems question

  • @KatieS7- work situation: I was due for my college credentialing class (I have plenty of college for what I do just not in the state of NC) and my state mandated training hours all of which are out of pocket for employees and the college class alone is like 400$. H and I decided it wasn't worth the investment of money when I know thats not where I want to be. I love working with kids but not in a daycare setting.

  • I'm sorry, I have no advice. Just hoping things get better soon! Poor babe.

  • Have you talked to your ped? We've been having tummy troubles more so than ever this past week and only at night. I EBF but from my peds advice been trying diff formulas to supplement just a feeding or two to give his tummy a break. We're still working on him just taking it since he doesn't like it (don't blame him smell disgusting). But id really talk to your ped, I'm not sure but straight pedialite doesn't sound good for too long but maybe your ped can give you different types of formula to try. My peds given us low lactose, soy and now we're trying nutrimigen. She said there's one more after that if he doesn't take we have to go to a specialist. You're ped will know best

@Ashesha13- its in my OP but yes Ive talked to her ped. Right now her Ped thinks its a virus or maybe teething and says pedialyte wont hurt her. The only harm in only pedialyte for too long is possible weight loss but given that DD is over 18 lbs shes not even worried about that. She finally took to solids this week so Ive been trying to make sure she gets a good amount of cereal and bananas since pedialyte doesn't really keep her full.

  • @ktbug613 oops sorry I missed that even when I went back to double check. Well then hopefully it is a virus that will pass soon and not something a specialist needs to look into. Hugs or you and your lo
