Raw skin..

Ladies- I just noticed today that lo has some red, raw looking skin in her neck crease. She is a chubby one, so the area doesn't get much air. I changed her onesie, as it zips up somewhat right around her neck, and put some aquaphor on. It doesn't seem to bother her, but it bothers me! Anyone experience this? What helped? I plan to call pedi if it hasn't improved in a few days. I've attached a picture for your viewing pleasure ;-)

Re: Raw skin..

  • I'd keep an eye on it. It's possible it's a yeast infection.

DD2 has had something similar before, on her neck, arm pit and leg crease. I used some diaper cream on it and it cleared right up.

  • Ours started as a drool rash and turned into a nasty yeast rash. Put something in it to dry it out, like baby powder. We were given prescription powder. Also, bins are your best friend. Keep them changed frequently. It her onesie gets damp around the collar, change it. You really want to fight the moisture.

  • Not too sure, but I would keep slathering it up with Aquaphor. I hope it clears up quickly :)
  • I will have to do some google researching, but are yeast infection symptoms for baby, the same as what I would experience with a vaginal yeast infection? Ie- itchy, burning, white stuff (gross, I know, but I have no idea!)

  • I used cornstarch when LO started getting raw from drooling making her folds wet.

  • Classic looking yeast infection- from drool! Might need to go to ped for miconzonale powder! Keep the area as dry as possible!

  • Keep it dry!

If it's present inside of elbows, behind knees, cheeks--it could be eczema. In that case, keep it moist.

But the pic looks really moist so I doubt eczema. Dry it out.
  • I used diaper creme. It's so hard to clean out too...you always find something new in there. It's a gift that keeps on giving. Don't smell it btw.

  • Keep it dry, then keep a barrier on it allllll the time (like you're doing with the aquaphor).  Dry it out and re-slather at every diaper change, more often if necessary.  If you have any natural-ish diaper ointment that has tea tree oil in it, use that a couple times, as that has antifungal properties.
  • Thank you for the feedback. Poor baby. She is fussy and clingy today but I don't know if that's the cause. When I dry it, put ointment on, it doesn't seem to bother her.

  • I agree with PP's- keep it super dry. My LO is always in a bib at this point. Hope it clears up quickly for you!

  • It is likely a yeast infection.

I highly recommend getting a little coconut oil and applying it to the area, then keep it dry.

Coconut oil is a natural antifungal and will wipe out the yeast quickly.

I bought mine at the local drugstore.
