First off, I haven't been on the site for a while now due to no internet connection and being too sick to go to the library, lol. I am happy to see that everyone is doing well!
So I was due January 7th, but i had my baby girl Imani 3 weeks early on December 19th, 2013. They took her via csection because of low amniotic fluid, also because I was not dialated and had previous c/s. When they took me back to my room, I had some clotting and bleeding which they seemed to have stopped. I got out of the hospital on December 22.
On the morning of December 28, I started bleeding with blood clots coming out of me like diarrhea. I had light bleeding all week, so this surprised me. I was thinking about going to the hospital, but after about an hour the bleeding stopped and I was fine for the rest if the day. Then later that evening, it happened again, only this time it was worse. I bleed through one pad in a couple of minutes, put on another one, and called the 24 hour emergency line. By the time I got off the phone (3 minutes) I had bled through my pad and pants. Decided at that time to just go to the hospital without waiting for the doc to call back. Had to protect our car seat because I bled through my pants on the way to the hospital enough to make a butt print and then had to get a wheel chair at the hospital because if I walked I would've trailed blood.
Finally got checked in to l&d, still bleeding profusely. Blood pressure was 180/100. They took blood and did an ultrasound, where they couldn't see anything because my uterus was 'cloudy'. The determined that i had postpartum preeclampsia and started me on Magnesium. They told me that i would have to get a D&C, but I had to wait to get it because I had eaten. Eventually they decided I needed a blood transfusion because my red blood cell count was low. Once they started the transfusion, I started tanking. My blood pressure dropped to 83/57 and my uterus was growing because it was filling with blood. They took me to the OR immediately. The last thing i remembered was the anesthesiologist putting the mask on. They were working on me for an hour. I lost 2 liters of blood. They had to put for 'pills?' up my anus to open my cervix and give me two more IV's (had for all together). I was in recovery for two hours. They had to give me 6 bags of blood and two fresh frozen plasmas I think they call it. After all of that, I now have high blood pressure.
Sorry the post is so long, just wanted to share. This experience has killed my want to birth anymore children. I have a boy and a girl, if we want anymore, we'll adopt! Thanks for reading, I have posted pics below.

Technically what happened to you is called a delayed postpartum hemorrhage. It can be caused by bits of placenta left behind in the uterus, or it could have been something else.
In any case, I'm glad you are recovering, and that your beautiful daughter is safe.

Definitely, if I were you, I would get your records from the surgery and from your ER visit. If possible, find a knowledgeable person to review them with you. It might be illuminating.
