Nanny/Babysitter cost

Hello ladies!! Hope everyone is doing OK! I am having a good friend watch Avery when I go back to work on Mon-Wed from 8-330. I asked her to come up with a price however she is unsure and asked me. I am trying to think how much per day I would pay for her but I am not sure what the "norm" would be. Just wanted to see if any of you ladies can shed some light on this. I tried looking up local child care centers and nanny's just to get an estimate however they don't list prices online.

Thanks Ladies :)

Here's some lovin'; from Avery to all of you :)

Re: Nanny/Babysitter cost

  • The price could vary greatly depending on what area of the country you live in. Have you checked care.com or sitter city to get idea of prices in your area?

  • This will vary greatly by location. Around here infant in home care is 125-150 a week and centers are about 175-225. I agree with pp about checking care.com for local rates.

  • I live in upstate NY. I will check out those sites, thanks so much! I always know I can count on you ladies :)
  • I'm in upstate NY as well. We found in home daycare to be about $175-225 per week for someone watching up to 6 kids. Daycare centers were about $225-300 per week.

  • In Hawaii the lowest I've seen them is about 125.00 a week, for in home care.

  • Average where I live is between $40 and $60 per day, depending on whether you go with at-home care or a daycare centre (at-home is usually cheaper). It seems to vary a LOT based on where you live!

  • We have (hopefully finalized next Saturday) found a nanny for our 3 kids. It happens to be a distant relative which is nice that we know her.

We live in a smaller town outside the cities in Minnesota and are paying her $315/week for about 45 hrs/week give or take a few hrs here and there. It averages out to about $7/hr. We also are giving her 3 sick days to use.

It costs us at least $325/week to send 2 of our kids to the center daycare so this is saving us a ton of money now that we have 3.

  • Either sittercity or care.com has a calculator you can use which factors in your zip code to tell you an average rate.

  • I live in Syracuse, and because I didn't have my sitter watch ds all week, I paid a daily rate- $35 for 6-7 hours/day. I know my friend in Buffalo pays her sitter $5 per hour per child. ( sitter comes to her home). When we looked at home care for infants for ds we were quoted anywhere from $125-175- but that was for M-F, 7 am-4;30 pm.
  • We pay $31k/yr for 40 hours.
