Moms who formula Feed

Do you notice if LO clusters feeds sometimes. Some nights little one will eat his three ounces, then 30 mins later need anther ounce and then 30 mins later need anther ounce for a total of 5 ounces. Before we give him the last two ounces we do the 5'S to make sure that he is not looking for comfort and he is not he really wants to eat.

Re: Moms who formula Feed

  • I never really thought of it as cluster feeding, but when I went to my pedi appointment today, and we were talking about lo's eating, and I mentioned that sometimes LO wants to eat after only an hour half. I told him that I also check to make sure that he doesn't have another need not met before I feed him again. He said that's perfect.

In short-- So what you're doing is exactly what you need to do.

For reasoning...is it a recent thing? Like maybe LO is going through a growth spurt? That's usually when mine eats more frequently.

  • Yes, she's been doing this for a few days and is 6 weeks today.
  • he eats 3-4 oz every 3-4 hours, just some nights he will cluster and eat 5 ounces within 2 hours...

  • This happens to us sometimes too. If she's legit hungry I feed her regardless of time. Sometimes she wants to eat after only like two hours since the beginning of her last feeding ( most of the time she goes 3-4). I chalk it up to growing.

My LO does this. We've been giving her 3oz every 3 hours but just increased it to 3.5-4 every 4 hours. Yesterday she hit 3 weeks and had a few times when she was hungry and crying after 1.5-2 hours so I would give her another ounce or 2. When we finally got her to sleep after a 4oz bottle, she slept for 6 hours which has never happened. It is very easy for us to tell when she's hungry - she tries to suck on any body part and stops taking the pacifier, all while screaming.

  • My baby does that too. Generally he takes 4 ounces every 3-4 hours, but there are times he wants to eat more after an hour or two. He is usually extremely fussy and putting his hands in his mouth when this happens.

  • Between 730-9 pm she does this, has been for a few weeks.
  • Same here. Mine is also a snacker ad he likes to eat whenever he wakes up from a nap, even if it hasn't been three hours since his last feeding.

Mine hangs off my chin hubby thinks it is so funny, he finally calmed down after 5 ounces over 2 hours. He then woke every 2 hours for 3 ounces so needless to say we got zero sleep lol....

  • How old is your LO? Mine is 5 weeks and does this for a couple of his feedings daily. I started offering 3oz one feeding, then 4oz the next. He seems to like the variety in amounts and I think it's help cut down on him asking for more sooner. Of course if he's still hungry after any feeding, I offer another ounce.
