What I get for being nice

A friend of mine had a baby a few months ago. She had to go back to work rather quickly, and was stressing trying to afford a breast pump, so I offered to lend her mine. She didn't use it for very long before switching to formula, so I've been trying to get it back from her since before Thanksgiving. She finally brought it back yesterday, and I was pissed. It's filthy...the bag has white spots all over the outside and the inside looks like she let a stray cat sleep in it. I planned on buying all new tubes and shields and whatnot, but she didn't know that, and the old ones (those that came back, at least) are crusted in dried breast milk. Disgusting. To top it off, the wall plug is missing.

I don't see this friend that often, but I really tried to help her out in a tough spot, and this is how she treats my possessions? Yeah, I think that's the last time I lend her a hand.

Are you going to talk to her about it? That's unacceptable.

I asked about the missing plug, and she said she'll try to find it or buy me a new one, but considering how long it took to get the pump back, I'm not holding my breath. I didn't even bother mentioning the filth, because she obviously knew it was gross, but didn't care, so that's a pretty good indication to me of how much she values our friendship. Trying to discuss it with her would just get me all worked up, and it's honestly not worth the stress.

Values your friendship....and her own babies/her own health?! I am appalled at the condition of how it was returned to you and clearly poorly used.

  • I hate being nice and being shit all over! I'm sorry she didn't take care your things. That's so effing rude!
  • Thanks for letting me vent, guys. I think I'm mostly pissed at myself, because she really hasn't put forth any effort in our friendship in quite a while, and yet I keep trying to help. Plus, DH warned me not to lend it to her for exactly this reason, and I defended her and said she'd never mistreat my stuff. I'm just such a sucker sometimes.
  • What a jerk. Honestly, if she returned it like that to you, I wonder how often she bothered to clean it for her child!

It sucks that kindness is rewarded by asshattery.

  • Ew, what the hell! I'd be so pissed, I think my face would speak for itself if I was handed that thing!
  • Not cool! :( some people have no respect for others things.

You and me both, don't be so hard in yourself. She messed up and was the inconsiderate one. I say call her up and tell her your really going to need all the peices ASAP. My only worry is that she burnt the motor out ( happened to me) and THAT'S why she kept the adaptor, and if that's the case, go off on a sneaky b****.
  • @MamaHollywood27 The battery adapter was still there, so I was able to make sure that the motor is still running. Yeah, if that didn't work, I'd be demanding a replacement. As is, I'm just gonna write her off as a friend. Fighting over getting back $25 in parts isn't worth my time and frustration.
  • I feel like I've lost a lot of my capability for shame throughout this pg experience, particularly in regards to my body and it's functions. However, handing over something with my crusty bodily fluids still attached? And in a see through tube no less? Nope, couldn't do that one.

    this.

    also this.

  • @1linedrawing That's about the face I made when I opened it up.
  • I agree with get out while you still can. I still can't believe she returned it with her dried breast milk still in it. Eww!
