Gah! Severe leg pain tonight! &%#%@$%!!!

ACK! Right around dinner time tonight, both of my legs - namely my hip, knee and ankle joints - started aching like CRAZY, almost out of nowhere! It's like they went from zero to intense pain in about twenty minutes.

I didn't even have a particularly busy day or anything - now every joint in my leg is screaming! The pain is so bad I feel like I'm going to toss my cookies. No amount of rubbing, stretching or changing position does anything. There's no pain in the joints of my upper body or in my back at all... sweet Pete, what gives?! I can hardly breathe right now from the pain!

Does this sudden leg ache attack hit anyone else? I looked it up and found lots on "leg/joint discomfort" during pregnancy, but this shiz is so sudden, severe and random. Egad! It's like I've just walked for three weeks on 100-year-old legs or something!

  • Yes, all 3 pregnancies it happened randomly once or twice. A hot bath is all that helped, but not completely. A L&D nurse recommended Tylenol.

  • I have gotten it a couple times in my hip.. It comes on super sudden like a Charlie horse but then usually fades in a few minutes.. Super painful though :(

  • I've had something like this a few times. Hurts like hell! Sorry you're experiencing it as well. :(
  • Ouch! Maybe a warm bath? I use Vicks on my back/hips when I start aching. Hope you feel better :(
  • I've gottenit where one leg just screams and basically just shuts down in the middle of whatever I am doing. But it generally doesn't last too long.

Do you have access to tiger balm? If it's muscular it may help, otherwise - I'm so sorry. If it doesn't go away, I'd suggest calling it it/seeing someone rather soon.

  • Phew, it's gone this morning, thank Jeebus. If anyone ever got "growing pains" in their legs during adolescence, it was comparable to that, times about a thousand. Like twitchy, panic-face, "did I break it?" pain! SO glad it's disappeared! That was weird.

I ended up reading somewhere on the interwebs that sometimes it can be due to a hormone flood in your body, rather than just over-use or an injury or something.. this would make sense, because my boobs hurt last night and my emotions were all over the place. Maybe it was a mixed bag of lovely late-pregnancy hormonal side effects!

Either way, thanks for the tips!! Three cheers for being able to walk without grimacing this morning, lol
  • Mine have attacked like Charlie horse and since I'm being more diligent about drinking enough water, eating bananas, and being up and about walking around during the day as well as stretching/ doing ankle pumps, they have graciously not returned (yet).
  • I've had a few Charley Whores (my own special snowflake Uneek spelling). They are the worst. I scared Mister D half to death one night when I woke him up with a scream of pain. He thought for sure I was in labor.
