Weight Loss Wednesdays

How is everyone doing this week?

Accomplishments? Any loss of weight, inches or (in my case) breath?

Any struggles this week? Minor bumps in the road?

Have you altered or made any new goals now that we're a little ways into it?

What do your current work outs look like?

I also had a question for you ladies. If you're looking for fat loss rather than to tone, is cadio the way to go? Should I be throwing in some squats and muscle work too?

Keep up the good work ladies!!!

Re: Weight Loss Wednesdays

  • No weight loss yet I kinda fell off the wagon last this, so I grabbed a friend and got back on this week. Im looking to loose 30-40 lbs total. I use myfitness pal to track what I eat and stay in my healthy range and myrunkeeper app to keep track of workouts

Right now Im only cleared for walking (from surgery) can't wait to start running again when Im fully cleared!

As for "fat loss" cardio and weights are equally important. Just having muscle burns calories (even when your not working out!) its one of the reasons cross fit programs are so sucessful.

I've been doing good in the eating department (minus a little slip up of candy that was taunting me last night), not so good in the workout department. I need to get my butt in gear!

I lost 2.8 pounds this week, so obviously the eating has made a huge difference considering I haven't been working out. I've been eating fresher meals.

Minor bumps include fun size Snickers and Kit Kat bars.

I had been doing a JM dvd (30 day shred). I need to restart :(

(edit: I skipped a question and left it randomly in the middle of my answer. Whoops!)

  • Accomplishments? I set the goal to go walking every day on my lunch break, and I did. I set the goal to only have fast food once in the entire week, and I did. When I weighed in a WW, I stayed the same, but that happens EVERY time I start doing activity. Not worried about it.

Any struggles this week? I set the goal of having zero cocktails this week, but I had one on Saturday night. (It was a gourmet restaurant that specializes in bourbon cocktails. I have no regrets!)

Have you altered or made any new goals now that we're a little ways into it? Now I need to concentrate on controlling my calorie intake.

What do your current work outs look like? Just 30 minutes of fast walking every single day. Not a huge thing, but I'm aiming more for commitment and consistency at this point.

If you're looking for fat loss rather than to tone, is cardio the way to go? Should I be throwing in some squats and muscle work too? I've always read that if you're wanting to burn fat, building up muscle is SUPER beneficial. It will affect what the scale says, but overall, building muscle helps burn fat and keeps bones strong (which is important for females). And muscle work will burn calories too, so it's a win-win.

This week I lost 2.5 pounds. I'm doing weight watchers and have tracked everyday since last Wednesday even if I go over my points. I'm trying to be really honest with myself about what I'm eating. I also walked to and from daycare yesterday to pick up LO and I'll be doing it again today.

I'm hoping to get back to my workout classes two days a week start Saturday.

I think weight lifting is what helped me lose weight before I got pregnant. I also love how badass I feel lifting weights.

I'm new to this thread, but desperate.... you'll have me and let a fat girl join your cool kids club?

Last week was sort of a wake up call for me. I mean, I was not dumb enough to be under any illusion I was thin, but there isn't anything like a trip to Las Vegas to remind you that you're old and fat. Regardless, I just realized how cruddy the extra weight has made me feel.

I suffer from some health issues that mean I actually have to consult a doctor every time I "go on a diet" or begin to exercise. I made that appointment and had it today. I'm now on weight loss medicine and started a regimen of B12 shots. In addition, I'm supposed to do 30 minutes of low impact exercise per day and follow the diet plan.

I would be happy to share the diet plan paperwork with anyone that wants it in exchange for some support! I have my work cut out for me. I'd like to lose 100 pounds. I made an agreement with my husband that if I hit my 100 pound goal (that puts me at 189) I can have the Honda Pilot I want so badly....

Here's to a long road ahead!

I would love to see it.

I'm doing pretty good about working out, but my diet sucks! I don't know what to eat. Whenever I eat the healthy stuff (more fruits, veggies, healthy snacks, etc) I'm still hungry afterwards. Maybe it's a mental thing, but I keep binge eating. Even though I've been working out since Jan 1, I've been consistently gaining weight. I'm doing this all wrong!

  • @mommabmb the important thing is that you decided to make a change for the better. You're going to be awesome. If you ever need support or someone to stay accountable to feel free to message me, I could always use the same.

  • Accomplishments?
My biggest accomplishment has been being consistent with my eating and getting to the gym at least 5 days a week - I know- boring.

    Any struggles this week?
My biggest struggle has been the scale - I make the mistake of checking it way too often and this week it wouldn't budge and I was doing everything right. And there's breastfeeding - my supply is decreasing, I think. I'm having a tough time trying to find a balance between wanting to continue nursing and feeling good about myself again.

Have you altered or made any new goals now that we're a little ways into it?
Newest goal - to fit into a pair of new jeans I got for Christmas - it's a short term goal, but I'm hoping to get them on by the end of the month!

What do your current work outs look like?
Right now I'm doing about 20 minutes of cardio (treadmill and elliptical) and then doing some free weights and ab exercises.

If you're looking for fat loss rather than to tone, is cardio the way to go? Should I be throwing in some squats and muscle work too?
Great question! I can't wait to hear others' responses :-)

  • I can't answer all that now-- but I'm in a business casual meeting. Wearing the same outfit I wore in nov.

And I don't have to use the elastic waistband extender or the elastic Bella band like I did then. And my pants button!

    Happy dance.
  • How is everyone doing this week? I did okay, considering. My supply took a hit because I am still sick, and my LC recommended in addition to taking more milk plus, I have 1 very high calorie meal a day for a few days. I was better than usual. All home food except pizza during the game on Sunday. :)

Accomplishments? Any loss of weight, inches or (in my case) breath? I didn't weigh this week. I will next week. I did buy a few nursing tops and a new bra that made me feel better about the way I look. Feeling better is more important than the number on the scale I suppose.

Any struggles this week? Minor bumps in the road? The supply thing and the calorie dense meals. I have always had an awesome supply (the 1 part of breastfeeding that has been easy for me,) so having to fight for it now is stressful.

Have you altered or made any new goals now that we're a little ways into it? I decided to focus on a pound a week instead of anything more. It seems like if I try to hard my supply tanks. I will get on it when LO is nursing less / weaned at 12 ish months.

What do your current work outs look like? Mostly they look like walking... because they are. I saddle DD1s pony and put her on and DH carries DD2. We all walk together and occasionally the pony and I jog so DD1 gets to practice trotting. I plan to start back to the gym here soon.

  • How is everyone doing this week? I'm doing pretty well.  I started weight watchers a week and a half ago, and I've been able to stick to my allotted points.

Accomplishments? Any loss of weight, inches or (in my case) breath? I've lost 4.5 pounds since I started!

Any struggles this week? Minor bumps in the road? I find it hard to be exact with my WW points tracking when I am not cooking for myself, or at a chain restaurant (where I can look up how many points stuff is on my app).  I was at my MIL's house for dinner on Sunday, and I had to estimate because I wasn't sure exactly how everything was prepared/how much of every ingredient was in the various dishes.  I imagine this will also be a problem at non-chain restaurants….

Have you altered or made any new goals now that we're a little ways into it?  Just trying to lose about 15 pounds.  Thats my goal so far...

What do your current work outs look like?  I know this sounds like such a cop-out excuse, but I really feel like I don't have time to work out regularly.  My husband is so busy with work that I am with LO almost 24/7 (not complaining, thats just how it is).  He likes his jumperoo, but he won't sit in it for 30 minutes at a time so I can get a work out in.  AND he naps on me 9 times out of 10.  He sleeps in his crib at night, but won't nap in it.  But thats a whole separate issue, lol.  So I'm trying to focus on eating better and when the weather gets less frigid (its really been a bad winter for us in the NE), I plan to go walking with him in the stroller...

  • @millie1984, when my LO won't nap I alternate between the jumparoo and tummy time/floor play. I can usually get 30 minutes out of her if I take a second to switch out her toys every now and again. I don't know if that's an option for you or not. I'm with LO 24/7 too, it's a pain trying to find time to work out some days.

  • @californiadream87 so proud of you for still "pressing play"! Next week is rest week and then we get a little change the week after!! The last three weeks were a blur, huh? I bought some new shoes to keep me motivated while I'm jumping around doing Mary catherines.

Lol! Shoes are a great motivation to keep going. You're the amazing one though. P90X for 3 weeks? I only hope to last that long :)

  • 187 this week, bringing my total to 17lb down from pre-PG

I use MFP and I log 1hr or more of "walking while carrying infant" (baby wearing FTW!). Other than that I am not working out formally. Bedtime has been taking 2 hours lately so I don't have any time to dedicate to exercise.

The lack of sleep has made me really snack-y, and all I want is crap food. Ugh.

You're a bad ass! That is amazing! Go Turtle :)

  • This week I lost 1.2 lbs. last week I lost 3.5. So I've lost the weight I gained over the holidays.

I'm on WW and also joined the kickboxing program at my son's martial arts place.

Great work ladies. You guys really inspire me to keep pushing forward and sticking to my goals.

@CourtJack, I don't want to threat jack but I don't want to start another thread, either, so I'm going to post this here.  I have always looked at your siggy pic and said to myself "her DH looks so familiar" and it just hit me!  He looks just like Bob Guiney from the Bachelor/bachelorette ( a looooong time ago) LOL, it could just be the picture but at least now I have an answer to that nagging voice in my head :)
