EPer signing off

edited January 2014 in June 2013 Moms
I'm done! I'm free! I cut the leash to my pump and it feels fabulous! If LO had nursed easily I would probably still be BF but I made the best out of the situation and made it work for 6.5 months. DH wanted me to stop BF our 1st night home from the hospital so I'm sure he is happy too.

To all the other EP moms- keep rocking that pump!

ETA I'm gonna enjoy the large part of a bottle of wine tonight and not worry about pumping after!!!!!

Congrats! I am at 7.5 months EPing. EVERYDAY is a struggle and I am convinced that is the day I am going to quit. My goal is 8 months at this point. Lol 13 days to go. UGH!

  • Good job! 8 months EPer here. Plan on stopping when LO is 9 months and since I have a 3-month freezer stash. How did you drop pumps and how long did you go at each drop before moving on? I used to get terrible clogged ducts and I'm paranoid of getting more when I start to wean.
  • Well done!  That's really awesome to have made it this long!

  • Congrats, OP! That's awesome! Those of you who have an awesome freezer stash, any words of advice? I pump at work, and I'd like to be able to stop come April or May. I've had two different tragedies that depleted my freezer stash, one over December. Right now I end up with about an extra 3-6 oz per week. I drink my water, try to stay stress free while pumping, but I hate being tied to the pump. Thanks!

  • Congrats Mama! I'm winding down my pumping journey also. I can't wait to be free. We are 7.5 mo right now and probably won't make it to out 8 mo goal. I'm just letting my supply go.

I have an awesome freezer stash, but it's really because I've EP from the beginning and ended up being an overproducer.  I still get up in the middle of the night to pump because I get a good 13+ oz that session and that's where I'm able to bank up my freezer stash.  If you really want to, you could try that although the lack of sleep may suck!  You may have to add in an extra pump session when you can - either in the morning or maybe after LO goes to bed for the night.  If you don't want to add in an extra session, you could always try taking Blessed Thistle/Fenugreek/Mother's Milk Tea, etc but I think you may have the best luck adding a session.  GL!
  • Congrats, OP!  Super jealous here especially since both breasts have a bunch of clogs at the moment.
    :(

My goal is to keep EP'ing until LO is eight months and either quit or set a new goal...
  • Congrats OP. I can't wait for the days for no more pumping!

I was only pumping 4x per day once I went back to work at 12 weeks. My usual routine was 0700, 1200, 1700, 2100. My supply dipped when I returned to work but I was able to keep up for awhile. Then my supply started decreasing more when my period returned.

I chose to drop my 1700 pump first because I always hated that one and it would only produce 2-3 oz. Then I pushed back my 1200 pump to around 1400 and started shortening it. I waited about 2-3 weeks before dropping the 1400 pump all together. My supply kept going down from there. I waited another week and dropped my morning pump. Another week or so and I was only producing 1 oz at my nightly pump. I thought "this is silly to pump for 1 oz" so I finally stopped.

I would only occasionally have issues with a clogged duct. Nothing serious. I don't think I'll have any issues now since I was only making 1 oz daily.

***Change of plans- the wine I thought I had was consumed by company last month. I will now consume whipped cream vodka and root beer! Mmmm!
  • @PSNLS Thanks for the tips!  Dropping a pump a week is also what @bleachy14 did, so sound like that's a good plan.  DRINK ALL THE BOOZE! :)
  • Congrats on how far you have come! You did such an amazing job!!
