The mysterious lightning crotch...

Hey, ladies! I haven't been too active on the board in awhile due to holidays and such. Searched for this, but didn't come up with any recent discussions on this board. So this so called "lightning crotch" who has experienced it? What does it feel like (other than lightning)? I have tried to research it, but I feel like there is so little info on it. I thought I experienced it last week. It didn't feel like cramping. It felt like someone was stabbing me in my vag. So uncomfortable. It really made me freak out at first though, but I talked with another mom who told me it was normal, so that calmed my fears and kept me from calling the midwife. I guess I am kinda in "ftm, don't know what to expect mode".

I didn't get it until very late in my last pregnancy. When I would stand or move, I'd get a sharp pain. It felt like someone was shoving a knife up my vagina (sorry if that's way tmi). It happened maybe from 37-41 weeks?

Maybe its just low RLP?

I have had something that I'm pretty sure is what people are describing as lightning crotch.

For me, it was a duller pain but very sudden. As if someone was punching my cervix, but did it with an open hand, or through a heavy blanket to soften the blow a bit.

It wasn't "painful" per se, although it certainly wasn't fun or enjoyable either. Just kind of uncomfortable for a second or two. Mine seems to come and go in bunches: I'll have a burst of 10 or 12 of them in an hour or so and then nothing for the several hours.

I assume it's just baby moving around and poking into stuff.

I've seen previous discussions about this on the board- I experienced this as early as my first trimester!! I told my husband that when this happens to me, I'm going to pull my ear so he knows when it's happening because he couldn't understand what i was going through!! Went away for a while but came back in previous days again. It's def different from RLP- I've got my fair share of that lately too!

Might wanna check daily symptoms check-in posts for others who experience this. I know they are trying to encourage us on the board to organize our posts and thoughts by category lately. Careful cause people sometimes get snarky with repeat topics! (Although I'm happy to humor your complaints/questions!)

I had this early on randomly, and then nothing, and now every once in a while it comes back. I do recall with DS having it a ton towards the end...

I would describe it as a quick jab or jabs to ( I feel it in my cervix, but I guess the internal? or the part of the uterus that it goes into, if that makes sense?)

It's no fun, but with this anterior placenta, it is at least what I envision as baby kicking me in the cervix, so I'll take it.

I don't know if mine is lightning crotch but occasionally and out of no where I feel like my crotch area was shocked or something. It's 2 seconds long and that's about it.

I felt it for a few days in a row around 10-12 weeks. I haven't had it since, thankfully, but it was incredibly uncomfortable and almost left me with a numb/stinging sensation for a bit afterwards. Not fun.

Sometimes I think it would be better if I didn't know WHY all these weird sensations happen. I just want a checklist for each symptom that says, "Yup, that's normal in pregnancy. Don't ask why it happens. Trust us."

I had it the last week or so off and on. It felt like when you're sitting uncomfortably on a road bike and something's pinching! I kept shifting around to find relief, but there's nothing you can really do, like RLP you just wait for it to pass

So that's a real symptom huh? Yeah I get that but I didn't even realize it was happening as part of the pregnancy.

I've had it here and there, but it was more severe in the first tri. It feels like someone punched me in my cervix, sometimes causing me to double over, but only lasts a second or two. I mentioned it to my OB, calling it 'lightning crotch' and she laughed and said she had never heard of that term, but said its normal.
