Enfamil Newborn Liquid vs Powder

Anyone using Enfamil newborn? Our little girl is loving the liquid newborn formula, but the problem is that she's taking about 3 oz now which leaves an ounce just to waste. The bottles say, and the nurses in the hospital said, that after an hour of being open the bottle is no good and must be thrown away. Her pediatrician recommended the liquid vs the powder bc she said she didn't find that babies tolerated the powder as well.

Curious to see if any of you have used the liquid then switched to the powder and of there was any change in gassiness or fussiness?

Re: Enfamil Newborn Liquid vs Powder

  • I use both and have no problem. Like I will use the liquid when we are on the go but it is too expensive to use all the time. He does just fine with the powder. If you want to exclusively use the liquid maybe pour 3 oz into a bottle and then you can store the other oz in the fridge for up to 24 hours. That is what our pediatrician recommended. It can't be left out for over an hour. And you don't want to keep it if it has already been used. So just pour 3 oz into a bottle and store the remaining oz in the fridge and use it at the next feeding.

  • I use the powder and the nursettes also and we went through the 3oz stage. I use the nursettes when we go somewhere, so you don't have to heat them up. As for the 3oz bottles, I make a 4 oz bottle and put an oz in the fridge.  So basically for every 3 bottles you make, you have the 4th one by combining all your 1oz in the fridge.  As for the nursettes, its recommended to throw away the oz left over after an hour. I think it has to do with bacteria.  Don't worry they will start drinking 4 oz in no time.  My girl is 10 weeks and she drinks 4.5 oz now.  So I make a 4 oz, bottle and with the formula it takes it up to 4.5 oz.
  • My sister formula fed 3 children and we put half empty formula bottle back in the fridge ALL THE TIME. Absolutely nothing happened.  Put the bottle back in the fridge till the next feeding.  Nothing will happen.
