CPW: Rude or not?

The background: you are sitting in a waiting room and the radio is playing softly. A woman walks in with her kids and sits down. You are quietly enjoying the music when she takes out her phone and starts playing another song loudly. Would you be perturbed?

Depends on whether I liked the song she was playing better

It's annoying, but it's ridiculous to get, like, upset about it

The more music the merrier, duder

  • Oh my gosh, so annoying! This guy at the gym does this. I want to walk over to him and hand him a set of head phones. He listens to music AND watches tv shows with his phone at full volume. Gah!
  • @Stina2012 I don't know. Her boys were old enough to appreciate it and it was appropriate (it was a cover of New Age), so it's possible it was for them. She doesn't seem overly trashy and is actually being really sweet with Finnie right now.

  • @citrusfamily I'm not at the gym (wasn't very clear, sorry :) ) I'm sitting here watching Mickey Mouse Club and eating a sausage patty with maple syrup, very healthy :D
  • Ugh that would annoy me too. I mean if I was in a good mood it might not bother me, but you said you were enjoying the music that was already playing, so yea annoying and rude.
  • I think it depends, my kid only shits up when crying if I play the Sound of Music song "do ray me.."
I try my hardest to get her to not cry so I don't have to, but if I have to I play it low and apologize to the other people. If they say something rude, then I ask if they would rather a crying baby, most of the time it's the song.

But I do agree it is obnoxious to play a song for yourself out loud
  • Sounds like an odd duck you've got there. No scrunchie, hoop earrings, clothes with airbrush sayings or those Mudd hand prints? Are you sure?

Wait, maybe you're on Candid Camera!

Yeah, people need a lesson in cell phone etiquette!

  • Rude, douchey & selfish! That's why headphones were invented. I cannot stand what I call: "I'm the only one in the world" syndrome.

The only song that will quiet my LO down is old macdonald, lol...and only sung by ME not played by someone else.  I spend most of any car ride singing only that song to him, lovely.

    Lol at "shits up."

I ended up putting an FP app on for Finn. I planned to just keep it on for a few minutes, but then he kept kissing the monkey, so it stayed on. I may be a hypocrit, but at least I'm a hypocrit who makes sweet kids.

It's ok, I spend the entire time singing the Do Ray Me song too. She gets such great joy out of it.
