Do you believe in...

stretch mark cream? Just ran out of some that was given to me last pregnancy and I'm debating whether to buy more.  So a couple of questions:

Did you use it while pregnant?

Did you get stretch marks?

Does it really prevent anything (in your opinion)?

If you used it, which kind did you use?

Feel free to add anything else.

  • Did you use it while pregnant?
    Yup.
    Did you get stretch marks?
    Yup.
Does it really prevent anything (in your opinion)?
I don't think so, but it makes me feel better to use it.  Who know what would have happened without?
If you used it, which kind did you use?
    Mederma Stretch Marks Therapy

I am using it again. I'll let you know how it turns out. ;)

  • It's purely genetics.  Those creams are mostly a waste of money.  Ask our board plastic surgeon - @MrsSqueegy

Did you use it while pregnant?  For a little while

Did you get stretch marks?  Nope

Does it prevent anything?  Doubt it.  I probably just have good stretch mark genes.

If you used it, which kind did you use?  Bio Oil

  • Did you use it while pregnant? Yes

Did you get stretch marks? No new ones. I used to be overweight and had some from back in the day.

Does it really prevent anything (in your opinion)? I don't think it really matters. I think it's a genetic thing, as others have said.

If you used it, which kind did you use? I used Palmer's coco butter. It hydrates really well!

  • With my first pg, I used shea butter lotion that I got as a gift from someone who swore by it. I got stretch marks in the last couple weeks of my pg. So, I guess ultimately it didn't work.

I didn't bother with it the second time around. I used lotion, but just to moisturize.

The only reason I put stuff on my belly was for the itching, near the end I was always itchy!

  • I'm not a believer because I believe @Mrssqueegy who said stuff like that can't prevent stretch marks.

  • I used palmer's oil and palmer's cream. I was massive. I made it to 31 weeks with zero stretch marks and then they raged out. I continued putting the oil/cream on until my due date but it didn't do shit. lol. I'll do it again with the second, just because. Hopefully I won't get more?

  • I used it while I was pregnant and it's a load of shit.  I got the worst stretch marks I've ever seen and my mom didn't get a single one while pregnant, so I don't believe in genetics either.

  • I didn't use it and also didn't get stretch marks. I had stretch marks in my thighs from weight loss pre my 1st pregnancy. I didn't get any additional during pregnancy.

I have no idea if it works or not.

  • I was given a big jar of Mama Mio Tummy Rub while pregnant with James. I loved the way it felt and smelled. I put it on my belly and boobs twice a day every day. I didn't get any stretch marks. I bought the same thing while pregnant with Leo because I just really liked it. I don't know if it has any magic powers. I also really liked the Mama Mio leg cream when my feet were swollen and sweaty.

  • Did you use it while pregnant? Nope.

Did you get stretch marks? Nope.

Does it really prevent anything (in your opinion)? Nope. I drank a ton of water and I do believe that helps a little. I think it's mostly genetic.

  • Did you use it while pregnant?
    Yes for both pregnancies.

    Did you get stretch marks?
No for either (so far), but I delivered DD at only 29 weeks and I am currently only 27 weeks pregnant with #2, so there's still plenty of time for the magic to happen.

Does it really prevent anything (in your opinion)?
Itching! But stretch marks? No, as far as I'm aware stretch marks occur on a lower layer of the skin than lotions and oils penetrate to. I still had a bunch left over from when I was pregnant with DD so I still use it because it works wonders for the itching and makes my belly feel awesome!

If you used it, which kind did you use?
Burt's Bees Mama Bee and the Belli brand belly oil.

  • If you're worried about it, buy some Mederma.  But don't use it until after you're done being pregnant.  I've used it both on stretch marks and on scars and while it takes a good 2 months to fade to pretty much nothing, it works really well.  My Mom had surgery last year and they gave it to her at the hospital and I took the leftovers.

  • Did you use it while pregnant? Nope, I used regular lotion a bit when my skin got itchy

Did you get stretch marks? Nope, I'm lucky

Does it really prevent anything (in your opinion)?  Nope, but I bet it feels good when your skin is stretched out and itchy..

If you used it, which kind did you use?  N/A

  • Nope. I didn't use anything special, when I used lotion and my stretch marks have since completely faded. From pregnancy anyways ;P

  • All I have to add to this thread is that I hate how many of you didn't get stretch marks! I never knew how vain I was until after I had DS and I hate looking at myself in the mirror because of them!

  • I talked to my dermatologist and he said he could prescribe some retin-a gel to aid incollagen production, but that it would be best to wait until after number two. It isn't safe to use while PG, and I am hoping that happens sooner than later.
