I am 32 weeks and have been experiencing horrendous groin/pelvic pain for a few weeks now. I sleep on my side, but when I try to turn, I get a burning pain in my groin. When I get up from sitting or walk for an extended period of time, I feel like someone has kicked me in the crotch. I'm in so much pain all the time. It also gets worse  when I have to use the bathroom. I have this maternity support belt which my OB said may or may not work and so far, it's not working. Looking at it, I can't even figure out how it would work for anybody. Is anyone else experiencing this? If so, what are you doing for relief?
Thank you!!

  • Chiropractor... i swear by it... i have had horrible hip and groin pain through both of my pregnancies and my chiropractor is my best friend... See if your ob or midwife can recommend a chiropractor they are comfortable with..

  • Thanks ladies!
I started childbirth prep class last week and there was a chiropractor there. The nurse running the class told her about me and they suggested I go see her. I was going to wait and talk to my OB this week, but it got to the point where I couldn't sleep on my side anymore because the pain was so bad. I have to sleep propped up.
So, I called and made an appt. I saw the chiropractor today for the first time. She said I have a lot of issues in my back and my pelvis is out of alignment. What scares me is that she said the baby could have trouble getting out if we don't fix the problem. :-( I'm pretty freaked out. I have to go 3Xs a week now for the next 4 weeks. I really hope they can help me.
Oh and I got a smaller maternity support belt. It's helping, but won't correct the issue. I am moving a lot easier now. :-)
  • Thank you! I told my OB what chiropractor said and she pretty much laughed at them. She said it's too early to tell whether or not I would need a c-section or have problems and that they are jumping way ahead of themselves. She also said that unfortunately going to a chiro or PT doesn't always work, but to keep trying anyway.
  • I've had SPD since 12 wks. It's just gotten worse. The only thing that seems to help is heat and Tylenol. I'm 37 wks now and lifting my legs to put pants on is a Nobel prize winning event.
  • Heat...good to know! I've had this pain since around week 27-28. My pelvis is out of alignment and the rest of my back is a bit messed up too. I'm 34 weeks now and I have trouble putting my pants on too (along with walking up stairs, putting on my shoes, etc...). My husband just had to help me get my pj bottoms on. It sucks :-( I was going to ask the chiropractor about using heat or ice this week. At this point, I'll try anything. Hope you feel better soon!
  • I had this with both pregnancies. Exercise, walking, moving often (do not sit in once place too long) and resting with feet elevated helped

  • Yes, I do sit to get dressed. At night, my husband sometimes has to help me put my pj bottoms on and get into bed. When I'm at work, I get up like an old lady. I can barely move sometimes and have to grab onto something in fear I'm going to fall. The chiropractor told me that things are looking better though and that I seem to be moving easier. However, she also said that unfortunately, the issue probably won't be fixed by the time the baby come. But, it won't be as bad. I feel like I am moving better, but the pain is still pretty intense. She said the maternity support belt is helping as well.

So I have the same exact symptoms that OP has, and I've been seeing a chiropractor for over two weeks now and I am getting little/no relief.  What adjustments is your chiropractor doing?  Mine pushes really intensely inside my pelvic area, which is excruciating and only gives me a tiny bit of relief.
  • Please, please, please be extremely careful with chiropractors.  It was suggested I see one for migraines several years ago and because he used improper techniques, I now have bulging discs in my back.  I would hate for you or your baby to be hurt!!  I would highly suggest you use a physical therapist over a chiropractor...yes, they can be more expensive BUT they are more highly trained especially given you are pregnant.
  • This is my first time seeing a chiropractor, I usually see a PT, but I couldn't wait that long. The chiro could see me right away. The nurse who was running the childbirth prep class had the chiro come in and talk to us, so I felt comfortable going with them.
They are putting me on my stomach (with those pillows under me, so that I'm not laying on my stomach) and pushing down on my lower back/ pelvic area while the table drops. I was a little nervous at first, but it seems to be working and the baby is fine (just had an ultrasound 2 days ago). Between that and my maternity belt, I'm walking a lot better, I can get into bed on my own and can get dressed on my own. Once the baby is born, I am going to see a PT.
