On January 7th, I went in for my weekly OB appointment. At this point I was 40 weeks 5 days and ready for my LO to be here. The doctor checked me and said that not much had changed since my last appointment so she wanted to schedule me for an induction. I was only 60% effaced and about a fingertip dilated. The next morning around 10:30am, my doctor’s office called and said they had scheduled me for 8:00pm that same night. I suddenly went into panic mode and started cleaning my whole house.
My husband came home from work that night, we had a good dinner and headed into the hospital. After getting all checked in and hooked up to monitors and IVs, the doctor came in around 10:30pm to administer the Cytotec, which basically is the same as Cervidil. They told me they would let me rest and come back to check on me in about 4 hours. Around 2:05am, my water broke on its own. Shortly after, the doctor came back and determined that I was about 2-3cm. She told me we were going to wait another 2 hours before giving me anymore Cytotec. The nurse gave me some pain meds through my IV since the contractions were becoming more intense. This helped me sleep for about another hour before the intensity woke me up. The doctor took longer than expected to come back and check on me. She finally came in around 5:30am and looked shocked when she told me I was now 9cm. The nurses called for a doctor to come give me an epidural and they started setting up the room for delivery.
Everything seemed like it was starting happen very fast so I called my parents to let them know our LO would probably be here very soon. They headed up to the hospital and visited in my room for a while before they had to head into work. (Yes, both of their bosses insisted they still had to come to work that day.) Around 10am, LO still wasn’t here so my parents left to head to work. Not even 10 minutes later my doctor came in and said, “Let’s see if you’re ready to push.” With my next contraction I tried pushing. The doctor said, “Yea, she’s ready. This baby is very low.” Around 10:15am I started pushing with each contraction. At 10:44am on Thursday, January 9th, Peyton Elizabeth was born. She weighed 8lbs 14 oz and measured 21 inches long. She is so perfect. Her coloring is great and she’s very healthy. All of my doctors and nurses were amazed at how quick and smooth my labor went, especially since I’m a FTM.
My husband and I couldn’t be happier to finally have our little girl here to hold. We are so in love with her and look forward to the adventure of raising her. Here are a few pictures my SIL took for us in the hospital. (She is actually one of the hospital photographers for newborns).
